Gerrard wins Castle Rock TT By Derryl Anderson CASTLE ROCK, WA, J NE 28 Duane Gerrard made a trip to Castle Rock tonight and went 1-1 in the 750cc Pro-Am class to take home overall honors in Honda CRSOO-mounted Phil Banks motored to the B class overall at the Morrison hare scrambles in Morrison. Illinois. Kelly Gett took top Expert. The spill opened the way for Thoeni to take the point position away from Marty Aglibot, a fello.w Salinas racer also riding a Yamaha TT. Thonei .took the 'win with Aglibot following him home. Crowd-favorite Michelle DiSalvo blazed a hot path to another first place trophy in the hotly-contested 80ec Mini class. DiSalvo led every lap, from thdirst corner to the checkered flag. She held off a strong challenge from Jake "Earthquake" Zemke, who was forced to start from the penalty line since he was the only Expert in the Junior class lineup. Results PEE WEE: I. Getz, Banks blitz MorrisonHS By Merle Acord MORRISON, IL, JUNE 29 Kelly Getz and his Bike Barn sponsor Bill Gusse tangled Can-Ams when Gusse got his from wheel in the air and lost control coming 0[£ the line from the dead engine start at the Morrison summer hare scrdmble.1t wasa minor selha€k for the Earnpaging Geu ,who finished the swertering two hour test of stamina four minutes ahead of second-place Ron Whipple. "It was hot today," said Getz, "but the the course was laid out great. It was long, 3.9 miles, I heard someone say, but they had almost everything - fast stuff, tight trails, a good hill and a couple of creek crossing. It was a real good hare scramble and I thought the club did a good job." Whipple had the hole6hot and said, "I was a little surprised, my 490 Yamaha doesn't start on the first kick, usually, this time it did. I ride my own race and don't worry about Getz, but near the end of the race, Gusse bumped me as ~ was checking through the barrels, and was I surprised. I thought I had a big lead in the Open class. It woke me up and I rode harder." "I caught him on the last lap," said Bike Barn owner Gusse, "but I was too exhausted to dO'anythin~ about it: Next week. I'm. going to start joggmg and getting in better shape, that last hour killed me." Phil Banks, riding a 500cc Honda, overalled the B class but had a few tense moments. "When I stopped for gas, I saw Sanders (Steve). on that I25cc Kawasaki go by," said Banks. "I caught him on a hill, and with a little aggressive passing, I got around. But I guess he lost a chain later anyway and had to drop out." Rod Gorzney's 250 Can-Am didn't lose anything and he beat out fellow Can-Am rider Baggy Hayes for the Senior class. "I keep telling those guys not to go so fast, they cou ld get hurt, but thev won't listen," said'a smiling.l::lilo¥e~aCter the race. '.. c the TT held at the fairgrounds track. The track was quite tacky as Gerrard grabbed the holeshot in the heat race. Behind him in order were Don Wilson, Del Schnitzer, Billy Taylor, Ricky Henson, Kit Farley and Kenny Wheaton. Within a lap Schnitzer squeezed under Wilson and began to pressure Gerrard. The rest of the field held their order while Schnitzer tried to get by Gerrard everywhere. It didn't work, however, and at the [Jag it was Gerrard, Schnitzer, Wilson, Taylor and the others. Gerrard got the scratch in the 750ec A-main with everyone bunched tightly behind him. Coming over the jump Farley Landed with his front wheel cocked, hit a rut and crashed. Taylor was still in the air when Farley crashed in front of him and as soon as Taylor landed he hit Farley and endoed; within minutes they were both up. Taylor was shaken and his bike couldn't make it, but Farley was ready to have another go at it. On the restart Gerrard got the Scratch again followed by Wilson, Schnitzer, Henson, Wheaton and Farley. On lap two Schnitzer got past Wilson and went after Gerrard. Lap after lap Schnitzer chased Gerrard to no avail. On lap six Schnitzer slowed up as Wilson blew by. Schnitzer's rear tire went nat, but he continued only to get passed by everyone except Farley, who had a problem and retired. At the checkered nag it was Gerrard, Wilson, Henson, Wheaton and Schnitzer. In the 125cc class J.P. Simonsen got the holeshot [ollowed by Trent Mourer, Joe Juenemann and Bob Johnson. Mourer wasted no time as he slid under Simonsen in the second lurn. Throughout the race Mourer held a good 5-8 yard lead over Simonsen and Lhe.Qthers. At the nag it was Ryan crashes, but still wins Baylands MX By Mike Vancil FREMONT, CA, JULY 2 Ricky Ryan's win streak was almost stopped at Baylands today after the Kawasaki pilot crashed in the second moto of the Open Pro class. But it didn't stop the San Jose resident from taking the overall to add to his 250ec Pro class WIn. Ryan, who normally starts quite fast, was behind the Husqvarna of Tim Crossfield in moto two. On the third lap Richards powered to the lead and looked like he was strong enough and far enough ahead at that point in the event to spoil Ryan's nearly flawless record for moto wins. Rya.n wa doing his usual rapidtransit catchup when he nicked Richard's rear wheel after Richards got out of shape after a high-speed jump; both went down. Ryan was up in a nash and back on the gas; be was up and by Hulse and Crossfield within one lap. The only problem was that neither he nor Hulse obeyed the yellow nags vigorously waved by several £Iagmen 'who were trying to protect the injured Richards. Referee Estes docked both Ryan and HuLse a full lap for their high-speed passes by the yellow-nagged area. Crossfield was thus declared the winner of the second moto though he came by the checkers in third position. The overall was not jeopardized by the set-down on Ryan and he was able to maintain his undefeated record. The 250ec Intermediates also put on a great battle for the fans. It was a strange night in that the regular performers couldn't do anything right.. Take the uncharacteristic performance of Wade Cobern who garnered a 3-DNF and of Jesse Britian who piled up a 6-5 evening and it was a sure bet that a newcomer would prevail. The capitalist for the class was Steve Weyrauch who could do no wrong. In fact, he was unchallenged in both starts, made no mistakes and successfully held 0[[ the serious challenge of young Todd Hicks. Hicks also enjoyed a consistent set of finishes; he got second both times. Weyrauch was not as stylish over the multitude of Baylands' obstacles, but he did get the power on the ground and executed very fast lap times. Results MINI 80 BEG: ,. Tyron Ferley (Suzl; 2. De
