Box 337, Downtown Chatsworth, NJOBD19 Call 609/726·1717 The Phil and Victor Palfreyman sidehack team looked to be the fastest duo at CRC Sunrise MX. but bad luck kept them out of the winner's circle. Berg fops CRC SunriseMX By Terry Rezek ADELANTO, CA, JUNE 29 California Racing Club made a rare appearance at Sunrise Cycle Park in mid-summer to continue their motocross series. ~it.hi'!..~ht of an under-construction theme park dedIcated to fantasy, the rider pursued the reality of racing, which saw Dan Berg top the Prof Intermediate action. The Intermediates and the' Pros ran together today. Berg (500cc Pro) had no problems winning moto one as he went gate to £Jag in the lead. Willy Musgrave (125cc Pro) moved up to second overall by mid-race but could not catch Berg. In fact, Mus· grave had his gloves full trying to beat back. a very hot 125cc Intermediate, Danny Barnett. They finished moto one wi th Berg leading, followed by Musgrave and Barnett. Chuck Whitmore (25Occ Pro) who had finished fourth in the first moto, grabbed the hoelshot in round two and led until lap six, when he stopped abruptly. He had lost the rear axle nut and was out for the day. Musgrave also dropped out. Berg probably wished Barnett had also, for the swift Intermediate was in second and pushing. Berg took the overall and first 500cc Pro and Barnett got the unquestioned Intermediate win. eRC was host today toa rare event; a National race of MX Sidehacks. Some of the best known teams in hackdom were here and they put on quiteasbow. The John Palfreyman/ Perry Millio team took the holeshot only to see Pete and Scott Whitney sweep around the outside to take an early lead, The Whitneys blew a turn and Palfreyman/Millio regained the lead. Phil and Victor Palfreyman seemed to be the fastest and the un· Iuckiest team on the track. They moved up to third by the start of lap two and were out of the race with every spoke gone from the hack wheel by the end of the lap. They replaced the wheel and finished but several laps down. Palfreyman/Millio held on to the lead and took the first moto in spite of a last· ditch effort by the Whitneys, who ran the last several laps with a broken clutch cable. The Ralph Whitney/John Beams team finished third. The WlUtneys got the holeshot in moto two bur tbe Palfreymans were cookin'. Palfreyman/Millio were closing in at third when they dragged too many feet and high-sided, dropping back a bit. The Palfreyman team closed on the Whitneys fast and they tangled wheels in the middle of lap two, with the Palfreyman's getting stuffed off the track on the camelback. By the time they recovered, almost one lap bad passed and the Whitneys ran into them again. While . these two teams were discussing right of way, PalIreyman/Millio slipped by and lumbered home for the win and the overall. The Whitneys took another second for second overalJ and Whitney/Beames repeated at third. Results PEE WEE B: 1. Matthew Pickering (Vam); 2. Jerry Aleman (Vam); 3. Sean Pickering (Vam). PEE WEE A: 1.
