H. AKAWAS KI Wishes to Congratulate Our Riders atthe 1986 Mammoth Motocross Jim Meenan (18) squares off a turn and sets up to apss Bill Dzielak (64) at Central Village MX in 125cc action. Waddington cleans Central Village MX By Todd Smith CENTRAL VILLAGE, CT, JUNE 22 With Jo Jo Keller racing in New Jersey, Joe Waddington had no problem sweeping both the 125cc and Open Expert classes in NESC motocross action. Waddington rode four flawless motos to maintain his firm grip on first place in both championship series. In the first 125cc moto, Bill Dzielak led the pack through the tight first turn trailed closely by Wemyss Scott and Jim Meenan. Scott jammed the leader's rear wheel in an attempt to pass and Scott found himself face down in the berm, in 16th. Meanwhile, "Grandpa" Meenan, the 16-time champ, commenced an attack on the Honda-mounted leader for the next four laps about the track. Waddington forced a shon intermission when he passed Meenan for second. The battle' was resumed by the end of the lap as Waddington quickly dispatched DzieIak to assume the lead. Once again Meenan and Dzielak were wheel-to-wheel, Meenan repeatedly shut off in his attempts to pass. Another four laps passed, and Meenan moved to the inside of Dzie1ak to hit the upcoming berm square instead of railing it. While Dzielak flowed through the turn, Meenan came to an abrupt halt, suspension compressed. Just as quickly, though, he rocketed out of the turn inside of Dzielak and roosted past into second. Meanwhile Scott had charged from 16th to fifth. Dzielak had done the opposite, and was well off the pace and fading. With three laps left Scott made his move on Rudnicki, who was in third. Scott had narrowed the gap to less than a length, but would get no closer, since carburetion problems left his YZ sputtering, in eighth place. The race ended with Waddington first, followed by Meenan and Rudnicki. The second mOlOopened with Mayo squeaking out the holeshot from Meenan and Waddington. Waddington quickly motored his CR into second on the back hill section and passed Mayo in the tower pop-ups. Waddington was now in his customary position on his way to -the checkers, and held it. Randy McCann moved his Kawasaki into second. Meenan made a final lap charge on McCann but fell shon to cross the line in third. The first Open molO was a typical Wadc;lington affair; by race's end he would hold a 24-second advantage over second place. In the second moto, Waddington lapped up to 10th. Results OPEN EX: I. DAVE WELTY MIKE DUNLOP Open Pro 125cc Int. Boone, Arrigoni By Mik~ Vancil FREMONT, CA, JUNE 20 A nice piece of work was tu.rned in by local rising SLar Tim Boone today at Baylands Raceway Park. Boone has been loaning his Honda to Rick Ryan, the Kawasaki Pro, in recent weeks so that Ryan would have a mount in each class. It is now apparent that Ryan has been helping Boone set up his equipment and has done some coachingon how lO get around the Baylands moonscape course in quick order. In the first molO Boone powered to the holes hot and never looked back; four Open Beginners chased hard and none could even get a sniff of Boone. Their second time out was a little more difficult as Boone had to work his way around Todd Luksa. Another rider lo show his colors was Ty "Too Tall" Arrigoni, who has beome a bit more regular in his apearances now that school is out. Quick starts helped him measurably on this evening as he got out front and made no mistakes for the 10 competitors in his class to capitalize upon. Heavy favorites Bob Moniz and Cabot Sheley could not put together two consistently good finishes. Results MINI80BEG: 1. Steve Mandolfo(Kaw); 2. Wayne Ward (Vam). MINI 80 JR: 1. Rusty Rust (Vam).
