Glenn Baar (22) failed to get past Chris Rickman in this pass attempt at Virginia State Fairgrounds. JoJo Keller swept both 125cc motos in Waterboro. Maine; in Open action. Keller had a flat and went 4-1 for second overall. Bast flies at NapaSpdwy By Bill Spencer NAPA, CA, JUNE 28 NorCal Speedway point leader Bart Bast continues to show the stuff the family name has meant for so many years, winning the Scratch main at the Town & Country Fairgrounds in Napa while Jim Sisemore topped Bast in a great Handicap show. Marvelous Mike Delacy took the first Scratch heat with John Houston a close second. Heat two saw a three lapper as Andy Gilbertson crdshed hard while leading into the corner and taking out Steve Martin for a restan. John Volk came up lame as did Martin with Sisemore an easy winner. Eddie Ingels dialed in the outside line for the third heat win over Bart Bast. Ingels and the A & A Racing special have a knack at this track for slidingjusta littlewideand then taking the outside line and usually winning in high fashion. Paul Orlandi did a similar number in the final heat in front of Sam Bast. John Houston, Jr. caught traction coming 0[[ of turn two in a close order drill and wheelied right into Martin causing a pile-up and the red to be produced. The restart, minus Houston, saw Ingels with the patented gate and win over Martin, who was constantly rejuvenated in every crash scene. Delacy and Bart Bast hooked up for a big time second semi with precision sliding right up to the checkers with Bast the winner. Bart Bast came up with draw for the pole while Delacy wound up on the fence as the two gated cleanly with Martin and Ingels inside the sandwich a t the corner. Delacy stole the other two riders line for any outside entertainment while Bart styled from the middle of the track with some powerful slides that added up to another Scratch win and a good hold on the NorCal point lead. Orlandi, Delacy and Sisemore dominated the first Handicap semi with Paul Orlandi the winner from the outside. Sisemore edged Delacy as Delacy got a bit too wide. It was Kid Curry and the B & W machine shop special leading the troops in the econd semi. Martin and Bart Bast had another thriller run with Martin holding 0[[ the charge. Orlandi and Sisemore once again hooked up at the start of the main and worked around Curry on tile second lap in a great display. Sisemore just kept up a dash as Orlandi got caught in the deep stuff while Bast overhauled Curry and came up second. Curry held off Delacy while Orlandi finished in fifth. Results SCRATCH: 1. Bart Bast: 2. Mike Delacy; 3. Eddie Ingels. HANDICAP: 1. Jim Sisemore; 2. Bart Bast; 3. Kid Curry. DIVTWO: 1. Mark Day; 2. Stu McDaniels; 3. Nick Geranio. DIV THREE: 1. Shawn Reppert; 2. Vohland had no problems laying away his competition in the Pro class. The first moto was a cinch for Vohland, who rocketed into the lead and boogied ahead for the win. Kawasaki pi lot Greg Tirheimer held of[ strong challenges by Honda rider Scott McElroy for second. Daryle Yount fin- ished fourth. Tirheimer and McElroy led Vohland at the stan of the second moto, but it wasn't long before Vehland found his way into the number one position. Once again, Tirheimer finished second ahead of McElroy and Yount. Scott Rogers charged to the Vet Novice class win after claiming victories in both motos. Keller followed suit and was tagging along behind "Wadd" by the third lap. Three laps later Keller waved goodbye, and cruised off to an easy victory. Waddington finished a distant second, followed by Helliwell and Joe Mikalson. JoJo Keller went I-I to take the win in the 125cc class action. Waddington was second, while Rudnicki used a 4-6 score to garnerthirdoverall. WATERBORO, ME, JUNE 15 Results Waddington, Keller at Waterboro MX JoJo Keller and Joe Waddington battled in 125cc and Open action on the boulder-strewn Waterboro MX track, each winning one overall in NESC action. David Rudnicki, Maine's top rider, put it best, when he said of the track, "It was like riding on marbles." The ancient glacial debris was not enough, however, to stop Waddington from taki ng yet another Open class overall. Waddington holeshot his way up "Mable Hill" followed by Rudnicki, Lee Helliwell and Keller. Keller soon passed Helliwell and Rudnicki, PUlting himself just aft of Waddington. Keller pressed Waddington throughout the third lap with no success. On the following lap he would be more successful. Waddington held a two-bike lead as the two began their charge up the long hill to the spectator bridge. Keller gained in the whoops. Waddington's lead was down to half a bikelength as he hit the apex and became airborne. Keller sailed under the bridge on a line just inside Waddington's. A pass was in the marking. The bridge began to sway as the crowd jumped from one rail to the other to get a better view of the upcoming action. Keller was planning to pass in a left hander that defies description., something like a sweeper with a hangover. Instead of a graceful, arcing berm there is a combination of dirt, tires and snow fence that form a bent line to the next turn. Anyway, Waddington dives into this berm and rails it to the drop-off at its end. Keller skated the turn like a dirt tracker to pull abreast of Waddington. Keller's inside line gave him the edge he needed, allowing hi," to snake by as the two dropped down the hill. Keller soon stretched out his lead, but at the halfway mark Keller's lead vanished, due to a puncture. Waddington took advantage of Keller's misfortune to retake the lead. It was now Waddington who was on his way to the win. Keller managed to keep up speed until the last two laps when both Rudnicki and Helliwell passed. Keller had to settle for fourth place. Rudnicki holeshot mota two ahead of Helliwell and Waddington. Waddington wasted no time passing the two front runners, doing so by' the OPEN EX: 1. Joe Waddington (Hon); 2. JoJo Keller (Vam); 3. Rickman twice at RichmondST By Joe Kelly RICHMOND, VA, JUNE 25 As the midseason nears, racing at the one-fourth-mile Virginia State Fairground's oval gets more competitive. David Nuckols, riding Suzukis, scored a win in the first l25ccqualifier. It was closely contested for the full five laps. Jeremy Lucy, also aboard a Suzuki, took second. Lucy then came back to turn the tables in the second heat, with Nuckols a tight second. As the light turned in the main, defending track champion Wayne Eckert, roared to the front of the class. First Doug Elliott challenged, then on the fourth circuit Nuckols made his presence felt as .he got by Elliott for second. The next four laps were real crowd pleasers. Nuckols tried every way possible and finally took over first as the white flag was waved. Yamaha rider Eckert stayed close but second was all he gal. Lucky finished third. Glenn Baar rode his Kawasaki to the front in the 250cc Amateur qualifier. Chris Rickman made a last-lap do-or-die effon to get by, but he went down in the process, letting Elliott inherit second. Rickman jumped in front at the turn of the light in the main. This time it was Baar's turn to slip and go down, stopping the race. On the restart, Elliott led Rickman by a cycle length. On the eighth lap Rickman again tried an outside pass. This time it worked, carrying him to the [rant and victory. The Pro 250cc riders had a preview race in their qualifier. Ray West, on
