Wheelie King Doug Domokos was on hand to display his acrobatics for the crowd while the bauleof the monster trucks rounded out the triple header action. Mike Bias and Tim Coombs started things off with a fierce bailIe in the first l25cc heat while Brian Stanley gave chase. Bias held on for the win over Coombs and Stanley. Heat two was a sign of things to come as Jeff Glass and Ronnie Tichenor provided the action while Davey Coombs and Robert Kelley followed. Mark Spriggle and hometown favorite Mickey .Whetzelled the way in consolation action to land tbe last two spots in tbe main. Glass was quickest off the (jne in the l25cc main followed by Davey Coombs, Tichenor and Kelley, Glass took a spill on the second lap, giving the lead to Coombs while a three-way battle for fourth shaped up between Kelley, Carston and Gerald Wood. Coombs' lead was four seconds when he skipped through the banners and caught a wire that threw him off his bike. "I saved an endo and was turning around when a cable yanked ,me off my bike; there went $MO down the drain," said Coombs. Glass and Tichenor had developed a battle that went to the flag with Glass getting the nod from ·/referee Russ Bennen. Kelley was third, Coombs fourth, but the race for fifth saw Carston and Wood collide in the final turn. M&:M/Milky Way-sponsored Carston was on his wheels first and crossed the line inches ahead of Wood. Bias led every lap of the first 250cc heat while teammate Stanley stayed close behind. Yamaha of Fayetteville's Vann Gibson rode consistently to third with Thomas Cumby and Lance Kerr finishing fourth and fiftb. The seoond 250cc heat saw three lead changes before Tim Coombs took the win over Gerald Wood and Glass. Mickey Whetzel and Paul Bell made it to the main but Bell elected not to ride due to a broken thumb.. The 250cc consi was a real crowd pleaser as Mark Spriggle, Glenn Addair and Scott McClain swapped positions with only the top two making the trip to the main. Spriggle held tough for the win ov~ Addair witb McClain heading to the pits in disgust. Glass had his lines down in the 250cc main and led from flag to flag for an anti-climatic win while some fierce juggling for position found Tim Coombs second at the finish.
