Jimmy "Size 12" Sisemore came 0[£ the 40 for a big win in the opening Handicap heat in front of Chris "Pistol" Polson. Marvelous Mike Delacy topped the second heat over MPE/ Martin Be Son Paving's Steve Martin, who barely edged out AXO's John Volk. Ingels was the winner in heat three over Martz and Crawford while Bart Bast angled his way around newcomer Stu "Too TaJl" McDaniels and Billy Scott. Sisemore played the tactician in the first semi, setting up Paulson for the proper pass at the proper time. Martin tried the Volcano Kid approach for the checkered, but it came up hart. It was good for third for the transfer over Delacy and Marc Prince. Martz held an audacious line for the second semi win with lots of pressure from both Bart Bast and Ingels for the final three with McDaniels surviving the crash scenes that put out Scott and Crawford. _ Manz got an exceptional stan with Paulson unable to hang on past the second lap. Sisemore gala Ii ttle ragged at the end of the first lap, but came back to challenge and pa Ingels. Bast went to work on the la t lap and closed the gap, but had no chance for a last comer pass as Martz held a £i ne line for his second Handicap win of the year. Ba t beat out Sisemore and Ingels with Paulson over Manin. Petrich Cycle/Arai/Scott/HiPoint's Pat Linn started out the Scratch heats with another awesome show of force. Martin cruised in for second over Crawford and Jeff Brown. Mike Parsons held well against Ingels in the second heat until the last lap when Eddie got a drive off tum four for the win. Ban Bast and Sisemore squared off for heat lhree with Bast taking the win after two laps of sideby-side action and Delacy got the upper hand on John Houston, Jr., for the final transfers. Linn came back for the gate in the first semi, but had traction problems off the first turn and promptly lost the lead to Ingels and Sisemore, who rode off with the transfer spots. Delacy got off with Bast in the second semi and both put on a show, side-by-side down the backstraight for one lap until Delacy got in a little too deep and lost by about six inches at the checkers. Sisemo.re and Bast got off the line together with Delacy coming up lame, but it was Ingels taking his fifth Scratch main event win. Bast held 0[£ Sisemore for second. Sisemore ran up against Delacy in the featured Match race and things weren't looking good in the first round when the long lanky 21-yearold got the holeshot, but lost on an outside pass. L.ucero jams at Ascot Speedway By Scott Daloisio GARDENA, CA, JUNE 26 For the second week in a row, Steve Lucero took home the major portion of Chris Agajanian's wallet by winning the Scratch main at Ascot South Bay Stadium. Lucero (Shoei/Maurice's Used Speedway Bikes/OilzaJl/STP/Cirello Racing Weslake) got up off the deck after a serious crash in his Handicap heat; he was shaken and seemed to have injured his left leg. Rocky Robinson, who was also in the crash, was transported to a local hospital with what was first feared as a broken neck. Fortunately, he was released the following morning with a couple of compressed vertebrae and he raced on Saturday evening at Speedway USA. The Scratch main featured a good early battle between leader Alan Christian and Lucero. Christian was in command with LuceTo searching for an opening to geuhrough. Finally on lap two, Christian got some traction and wheelied going down the backstraight. Before he could recover, Lucero pounced on the opening and went to the head of the pack. From that point on it was all Lucero as he moved away from the field and took the checkered, waving to the crowd, by a comfortable margin. Christian hung on for second byedging Shawn McConnell. In Handicap action it was "Rocket Ronnie" Correy bagging the win from the 2O-yard line. Correy (Ticket Mania/Fishing Boats/Unlimited/ STP/OakJey/NWVC Weslake) got by second place Jeff Johnson on lap one and quickly went after leader Jeff Jones. Correy made his first strong challenge on the fourth circuit, but Jones hung tough and held him back. On the final time around the brightly colored oval, Jones gave Correy some room on the inside as they blasted down the backchute. CorTey, ducked below and took the lead in turn three. The youthful star held the top spot to the checkered to pick up another win in his young career. Jones dropped back on the groove for second with Mark Dwyer third. Steve "Major Blaze" Furman (Team Blaze Racing USA/Paradise Epoxy Surfboards/International Limo Service Be Network/Corley Plumbing, Inc.!Air-Cool Connection Jawa) passed New Zealander Chris Manin on lap two to claim the top honors in the Division Two main. There were lots of thrills and spills in the 125cc Intermediate class, as Doug Finney grabbed the holeshot at the start with Jason Young close behind. The two racers bumped and bauled for two laps before Young took over the lead, pulling away from the pack. Richard Woten came from near last to overtake third, buta crash sent him to the rear again. Lance Kobush was putting in the ride of his life in third. Kobush, who is a Novice, was riding a borrowed bike after his bi ke seized in practice. The race finished with Young taking the checkers first, Finney second, and Kobush third. In moto two, it was Doug Schumacher taking the holeshot, until Finney blasted by in the third turn. First maLO winner Young crashed bad enough in the Mini Senior class that he was unable to race his l25cc. Finney started to pull away from Schumacher as Woten charged by Schumacher for second. Finney was too far gone for-Woten to catch, but Woten still got second overall with a 6-2 finish. Mike Stahlman smoked the start of the l25cc Expert class. Stahlman puJled away from the Lambert brothers, while Je££ Schumacher recovered from a bad start. Amazingly, Schumacher passed several riders to land the second place position by the midway point. Schumacher hammered away at Stahlman's huge lead. Even though Stahlman looked like he had it in the bag, Stahlman jumped his machine on the last lap, and "Schu" cruised in for the win.
