AI Miller (Hon). ~ 00 80ggia grabs Gran Prix MX By Peggy Adamic CANALFULTON,OH,MAYI8 Rou,nd four of the eRA HiPoint/Gear-sponsored Sp.ring Motocross Series held at Gran Prix Raceway saw Suzukimounted Mike Boggia take the overall win in the 250cc/Open A class with 2-1 moLO finishes. In the first moto, John Ruper grabbed the lead off the gate with Ken Frankenberry and Harold Robison in pursuit. Brunswick Suzuki/Hom bra International-sponsored Robison quickly dispensed of Fran ken berry and passed .his Suzuki teammate, Ruper, orrthe third lap when Ruper lOok the outside line. Barney Barnett, riding a Suzuki RM125, took over second from Ruper, passing him in the same turn Robison had a lap earlier. But because of the combined 250cc A/Open and l25cc classes, Ruper was technically still in second, Barnell first in the 125cc A class. Boggia, who LOok over fourth shortly after the start of the race. moved around Ruper with two laps to go to finish econd behind Robinson. In the second molO, Boggia grabbed the lead through the first turn followed by Ruper. Eric Hale and Robison. On the second lap, Robison passed Hale to take third. With three laps to go, Robison passed Ruper for second place, Boggia finishing first and taking the overall. In l25cc B action, Steve Gardiner grabbed the holeshot in the first moto trailed by Chuck Nicholson. The two Honda-mounted riders led the race until Joe Mauer passed Nicholson on the third lap but stalled his bike, allowing Nicholson to regain second. Mauer finished third with Brunswick Suzuki rider Karl Kure following the trio past the checkered flag for fourth. In the second molO, Gardiner grabbed the lead through the first turn but Kawasaki-mounted Mauer took the lead halfway through the first lap. Nicholson followed the duo for the entire race with Jim Lower grabbing fourth from Mark Booth on the final lap of the molO. Honda-mounted Eric Lee swept both motos of the 250cc C class. In first molO action, Lee grabbed the lead off the gate followed by Wetzel Husky/O'Neal-sponsored Rick Boepple. The duo led the pack of 20 riders for the entire four-lap moto, followed by Chris Rolling and Bob HarringLOn. In the second moLO, Boepple grabbed the holeshot and led until Lee took over the lOp spot on the second lap.
