Evans had other ideas, with two laps togo, Evans got under Roeder in turn three to take the point position, and Roeder stayed with Evans as they started the last two laps. Evans -put the I.M. Leathers/Shoei/Goodyear/ Castrol/ mitty's H.D.lHarley into turn three almost harder than his tire selection would allow. The front wheel plowed and folded under, but Evans performed a miracle save while Roeder came along side. A 200 foot drag race to the flag revealed Evans' winning mount was up to the task. "I really feel kind of sorry for George. He led so long and I mink he was looking for a mooth, con ervative line ... not all that orry though," aid Evan . Results PRO/AM: 1. Chance Darling (W·RI; .2. With only three events remaining in the PRRO points nice, Dahl moves into fir t overall in Formula 3 and third overall in uperbike D behind Bergstrom and Rick Williams. Dahl grabbed the holeshot at the start of the uperbike C/D race on hi Motor ycle and Marine-sponsored Yamaha RZ350 and led every lap while holding off the charge of Henry Tecza on Team Double Down's Yamaha FZ600. Unfortunately, Tecza's motor eized midway through the race. By lap seven Bergstrom had clo ed up behind Dahl in the twisting infield section but Dahl easily out-powered Bergstrom down Firebird's long straight. Dahl took the checkered flag a very happy man. "This is only my second first place in three years of racing with PRRO and I'll probably have a permanent grin on my f.ace for a week," said Dahl. To add insult to injury, Dahl's hor epower also came at Bergstrom's ex pen e. "I measured Bergstrom'scylinders after he eized at the la trace and used tho e figures to port my cy Ii nders and it worked!" In uperbike A/B action Craig Martin of Team Razor took his Kingman Cycle- ponsored Yamaha FZ750 to the front early on and never looked back. Brian joder took second on hi Suzuki GSX-R while jeff Udell took first place honors in Superstreet A. When the tarter dropped the flag on the Formula race, which pits Formula 1,2 and 3 bikes together in a single wave start, Dave Coon's EastSide Performance Suzuki grabbed the lead, closely followed by Willie Adams and Mike Williams. The three riders swapped po itions until Williams crashed in turn 12. Coons took over on lap seven and was pulling away from Adams when SCOtt Thomas dropped his Kawasaki 900 Ninja directly in front of Coons, forcing him out of the race. Meanwhile, Dahl had moved into fifth overall and was riding at the limit to hold off a determined Bergstrom. Bergstrom would clo e up in the twisty section but Dahl used his superior speed down the straightaway to take the Formula 3 win. , sanctioned and Pepsi Cola/Stroh'ssponsored flat track program at Bolado Park to continue their spectacular duels. Knowledgeable race fans are well aware that these are two more in a long line of very accomplished racer from alinas, California. john on hadjust returned from a racingjunket out of tate and learned that Carriger had been having high success at the Bolado facility. In their Pro-Am Expert heat race, for grid position in the final, it was Carriger on his Suzuki out in front after getting away from the line quicker than anyone el e. johnson got bottled up in traffic and wasn't able to set off after Carriger urnil Kurt Chandler, the third Salinas rider in the program, spilled and left the way open. The heat finished with johnson trailing Carriger followed by Allen Yarrow aboard a Fairfield-based Yamaha. In the final, Carriger wasn'tas quick off the line' as in the heat and the holeshot by johnson made his winning that much easier. johnson made no errors and Carriger could not do more than just keep up the pressure. Bolado is kidney-shaped and has noinfieldjumpsomu tb classedas a modified flat track, more like a wide, smooth scrambles. Neither rider demonstrated more talent than the other but both showed how much superior they were to the others in the field. Hard artistic drives into the first corner off the only real straightaway and easy power lides in the right-hand infield corner were nearly an every lap occurrence for the two front runner . In other class action, Dean Vincelet powered (and played) his way to two class victorie . In each event he was off the line first and never headed. If the race distance were longer his concentration from lack of competition might have gotten him in trouble. Generally, this season, when his equipment has been up to par Vince-let has been the cream of the junior class. So outstanding was he that the ease of winning and h is mass of j unior class points prompted the District 36 AMA Rules committee to move him to Expert status following the race! This just makes one more alinas Expert to the flat track world. . Results PEE WEE: 1. Gary Miller (Yam): 2. Ely Huerta (Vam). _ \ , , I l RM80cc, -"-." . 12Sct, ~ '. 2S0cc~' ~ '86 Red and Slack :.."
