Loop one sLaned out at 24 mph, with the first check at4.4 miles in a lightliule rocky section. The speed was kicked up and check two was around a hill near Soggy Dry Lake. Check three was a tie-breaker at23. 7 at the end of a rocky section and a sand wash that caught a few slow riders. There was no control check coming into the finish because of the shon mileage between checks. The check for the end of loop one was the tie-breaker that caught a lot of people running late, including some of the beuer riders. Loop two staned out30 mph heading north toward Anderson Dry Lake. The fir t check at 3.4 caught a few riders early, and the next check was just3.2 mile funher. Check six at6.6 also caughtsome notable riders early. It was very windy at the top of a ridge over a goat trail .where the speeds ranged from 30 to 12 mph going into check seven. The terrain got rougher as the day went along, including a nasty downhill. but then there was a shon reset to get everyone back pn time. Check eight was the check-in to the'special test in the mountains at the north end of Anderson Dry Lake. It was only three miles long but was a lot of virgin trail at 36 mph. Robb Mesecher had the best time in there. The finish at 37 miles was on the SCORE course road heading back toward camp after coming through the sandwash and the serpentines which everyone seemed to like. Rider comments were very favorable, in spite of the dust, wind, sand, and a few flat tires. The Team Challenge was won by Randy Pretzer and his Granada Yamaha A Team. with Team Checkpoint taking second place. In addition to a large trophy, all winning team members received Scou goggles and grips, and FRA Hook & Ladder Tshins. Saturday's Benefit Poker Run was a great success with almost 200 riders entering'to brave the dust and wind on the 10-mile course_ High hand winners were Charlie Brown. Danny Latham. and Jim Hollis.
