IL, MAY 10 Kaleb Northrup started the season in a winning way in the 400cc class at the Pleasure Riders M.e. AMA D-17 and D-15 hillclimb. Dave Crespo, also on a Yamaha, had a beller econd-round climb of 3.584 for second overall. Kawasaki rider Ron Todd rounded oUllhe lOp three wilh a 3.676 final-round climb. Chuck Seldal lopped a 22-rider field in the highly competilive 500cc class. The second round .of climbs proved 10 be Ihe faslesl in all classes. SeIdahl lOpped Ihe hill in 3.259 seconds for Ihe win and he sellhe faslesl time for t.he meel on a Suzuki. Behind him came Jon Groulx on a Honda, only a couple of licks down willi a 3.269 run. LaSI year's D-17 champion, Paul Heidenreich, riding a Yamaha, finished third with a 3.294 climb. All entrants received a carnation 10 give their mother on this Mother's Day event. Promoter Gary Bailey decided to enter in the Senior (Over 30) and Super Senior (Over 40) classes, winning three of four molOS and the Super Senior overall. "I never get to ride this track when ii'S in good condition," said Bailey. S&S Sprockets-sponsored Andrews lefl Ihe 125cc A class behind in both mows with Scott USAIUnifour Honda's Mark Spriggle ballling his way 10 second in the first molO over Lee Everhart and David McGuyrt. McGuyrt earned second overall behind Andrews with a solid second in moto IWO while Spriggle's 2-4 score landed third over Doug Solether. Andrews continued his rampage wilh a holeshol in the first 250cc A molO over Lance Eubank and Glenn Addair. Tam Topham picked up Ihird from Addair but couldn't reel in leaders Andrew and Eubanks. MOIO two saw Eubanks chasing Andrew for the whole race while Topham slipped past Spriggle for third. Gary "The Professor" Bailey howed Sonny Mitchell the fast line in Ihe first Senior class moto, taking the win over Mitchell while Bill Darling finished a safe third ahead of David Bell. Bailey hounded Mitchell for Ihe entire second molO and saw his last chance for the win escape him when a lapper kept him from allempling the big double jump. "I was going 10 pass him on the doubles if Ihe track was clear bUI I decided not 10 risk ii," said Bailey after the nice. Bailey C'dme back 10 win Ihe Super Senior class hands down wilh Buddy Holland pUlling his Yamaha in second over Mike LoPicolo. Jerry Robertson topped Ihe first Open B molO over Tyler Webb but a spill in the second moto ruined any chance of catching leader Webb. Jim Webster picked up second and second overall followed by Robertson. Dave Stevens led Ihe first 250cc B moto off the line with Rick Saunders .n. his wake.
