For Klopp, it was his third straight win, but unlike the others which were virtually wire-towire affairs, this one was a three-way battle most of the way between Klopp, Dave Lesnick and George Fultz. Lesnick led most of the laps until Klopp made his line close to the rail coming off the turns payoff with two laps left, taking the lead from Lesnick. . Heberling led the SOOcc Amateurs the entire distance, but had jerry Hash asa constant shadow. Bob Barr, jim Chapman and Andy Derr battled over third for the early going. The race was stopped on the final lap, as Derr fell on the front straight just before the finish line. In the Experts, it was again Tom Majeski winning the hotly contested 2S0ce and SOOcc Expert finals on his West's Cycle Shack/ToM Racingsponsored machines. And Randy Texter topped Majeski and the rest of the Pro riders in both the 250cc and Open Pro classes, with relative ease. Majeski dominated the 250ccfinal on his Moto-Villa, taking the lead from Eric George at the end 9f the first lap and pulling away to a 30-yard cushion. George held onto second, while veteran Dale Gingrich started to get some' pressure from rookie Expert jim Haas in the closing laps. George, Majeski and Lew Woods again pulled away from therestofthe 500cc Experts. Rob Majeski, Richard Foard and Eric Buckwalter fought over fourth from the middle stages until the end. About the fifth lap, both Majeski and Woods shot past George and started a repeat of the final two weeks before where they were separated by inches. And like the previous even t, this one was stopped for a downed rider with a lap left in the race, although this rider was unhurt. After battling back and forth in the previous event, and having a repeat in the Open Pro heat, the final in the Open Pro figured to be another Texter/Majeski barnb·urner. But the National number holder Texter, j um ped ou t to a fi ve-to-l O-yard cushion at the beginning over Majeski and heat winner jim Hollister and held it the entire distance. The 250cc final was even mon: dominating for Lancaster HarleyDavidson-sponsored Texter, as he was in front by over 20 yards, with Majeski starting to slow in the late stages, letting Texter ",::in by over a straightaway. After taking a heart-stopping fall in the SOOcc Expert heat, jim Hollister finally convinced the ambulance crew he was okay, and he finally had the cobwebs shaken loose by the final event of the evening, the 750cc Expert final. With previous winner, Max George, dropping out with mechanical p:oblems on the line, it figured to be a battle between Rabbi Racing/ Robbins Competition-sponsored Hollister and the Rabbi himself, Bob Babcock. Babcock jumped out to an ealy lead over Hollister, while Todd Stith and Richard Foard bauled over third. After five laps of trying, Hollister took the lead and held on to win by a length. Welding Weslake were nothing less than brillianL in winning the Scratch main in round two of Friday night'S speedway racing atthe Gold Country Fairgrounds. The warm evening brought in a crowd that was ready for some great riding and were treated accordingly right from the first Handicap heat. Sam Bast did a pirouette after running over JeH Brown's foot on lap two with Duane Yarrow the eventual heat one winner on the Snooky Owens/MPE/A&A Racing/San jose Wheel/Cancilla Tensioner Weslake. Paul Orlandi and the Quaker State/ Hi-Point special held on for second over Mark Zeissler, now riding for John Volk Cohstruction. jimboSisemore and Pat Linn hooked up for an exciting heat two with some side-byside moves while Greg Martz tagged along for the tran fer. Bart Bast tried the wide line in heat three but crashed his brains out while joe Leduc and john Volk got involved in the back straight fence with the red flag coming oul. Leduc broke a leg and suf· fered some rib damage. Mark Dragony took the win over Kid Curry on the B&W Machine hop special and Marc Prince on the Harry's Shop/ Napa Valley Yamaha machine. john Houston, jr., styled the Classic/ Fashion Frank Diaz tuned bike to the fourth heat win over Gary Stewart and Mike Parsons. In the semis, it was Zeissler holding off the advances of Sisemore and Martz for a win, while Dragony then held the winning line for the Dragony Bros. Racing Team, keeping Kid Curry and Parsons at bay. It was a repeat of that in the Handicap main as Dragony did a superb job of coming off the line quickly enough for the yardage guys to not be· able to make up time or distance. Sisemore was- typically great off the 40 but couldn't quite get it all together at the checkers. Eddie Ingels set the pace for the Scratch events with a rim ride downing John Volk for the transfers while Pat Linn continued his roll after roiling through the tapes but not breaking them.
