moved by O'Neal as he cominued to launch himself into the Nl'vada desert and out of comemion. On lap 12, Kalos continued to build a slightleakl over Bias, coming around three seconds up on the MJ/ Hi-Point.lScoll Honda of Bias. Coombs displaced Stanley and settled into third with Surwall fifth. But Kyle Lewis was coming. The Fox/ Scoll/Kal Card Honda was one ofLhe fastest on the track, but poor starts· hun the rising star aU night. He chased down Surwall on lap 13 a.nd caught Coombs and Stanley with twO laps to go, shooting by Stanley on the whoops with one lap left. A last chance at the O'Neal doubles was not enough, as Lewis sellJed for fourth. Kalos admilled during a POSt race interview with announcer Tim Cotter that the east coast guys were fast, but "they were no trouble for me." His no-nonsense remarks were soon overshadowed by a bit of on-track comic relie£. Coombs had come to the line for the 250cc final on the wrong bike and did not realize it umilthe two-minute card was up. He screamed his 125 back to the pits, dropping it to the pavement, and returned on the right bikejust in time for a terrible starl. Kalos again shot his Honda out from with Bias close behind, followed by Laballs Beer-sponsored Surwall, U Lah 's SCOLI Nielson, and Stanley. Surwall soon lost h is earl y rhythem and slipped back imo the pack. Stanley fell after a few laps and also dropped back. Bias, pumped by Kalo" commems about Easterners, pressed the younger Honda pilot lap after lap, trying the far inside after the finish several times, only to have Kalos shutthe door. On the eighth lap, Kalos put a lapper between himself and second place and Bias never recovered the lost ground. The race for number one ended at the halfway mark. Coombs had by now passed Nielson for third, and O'Neal also moved by shonly thereafter. He closed the .gap on Coombs slowly as the two held Nielson at bay. At this poim O'Neal finally grounded himself and tried to get Coqmbs on the inside, but as fate would have it, the only lap he should have cleared it he didn·t. Coombs had bobbled off. the side of the third jump and re-emered just in time to slam into O'Neal, as he rode over the fourth. The collision sent O'Neal crashing through the finish line barricade to the roar of the crowd. He got away from his bike and the banners just in time for Coombs, dubbed the "Arena Bull" by MOLOworld's Larry Maiers, to run over his legs. Coombs cominued to crash his way around the Silverbowl, tangling with lapper Jahner Kighton thenext lap. He ended his comic performance in sixth place. Out from Kalos cominued to place traffic between himself and Bias. "I kept Kalos close, even tried to pass him a few times, but he used the lappers to lose me," said Bias. "He flew through those guys we were lapping." And there was a lot of them. By the end of the race Kalos had lapped the emire field up to third-place Nielson, who rode so consistently and controlled that his third place wel1l all but unnoticed. Kalos completed the show with a no-harder over the final double. After the race Coombs said, ''jwanted to go after Kalas and Bias but I couldn't get around traf[ic, then I kept crashing. Did that O'Neal guy ever land?" Bias cominues to lead the p~int standings in both classes. Results 125: 1. Shaun Kalos (Hon); 2. Mike Bias (Hon); 2. Tim Coombs (Hon); 4. Kyle Lewis (Hon); 5.
