TN, MAY 4 Kawasaki-mounted Kevin Blalock captured the top honors in the l25cc C class loday at Smoky Mt. mOlocross, beating a tough field of competitors, such as another Kawasaki rider Travis Payne. In the first I25cc C moto, it looked as though it would be Payne's day; he jumped to an early lead and played cat and mouse with Blalock throughout the moto. It wasn't until the final lap of the moto when things came to a screeching halt. In a loose, deep sawdust/dirt berm, Payne tumbled to the ground, letting Blalock cruise by and take the checkered flag out in front. Round two saw Blalock jam into the lead, but Payne was nipping at his heels. Payne was in the proccess of passing Blalock when he crashed again in the exact same spot he had crashed the moto before. This gave Blalock a commanding lead - a lead he never relinquished. Blalock was back at it again in the Open class. He captured the firstmoto holeshot but was quickly dropped back to second after getting passed by Mitch McCarter. Shordy' after that, Steve Shinlever and Mark Bradshaw moved into first and second, and from this point on, positions remained the same, as Shinlever cruised o,n to take the win. In the second moto, McCarter took the early lead ahead of Travis Payne, but it was Bradshaw on the move. Halfway through the race, Bradshaw labored into the lead. while Shin lever followed into second. Late in the race, Shinlever dogged the leader in every turn, straight and over the jumps, but Bradshaw held on to take the win. "It was anything but easy out there," said Bradshaw.
