A shaken Peacock retreated to the pi ts. The restart was a carbon copy of the first as Farrell and Graybeal settled into first and second. JOHNS, PA, APR_ 20 !~Mlrsr~~~ Tyson Coleman, aboard a 2S0cc Honda, edged out Honda rider Gary Dunkelberger on the last lap to capture the win at the THE MORE YOU KNOW opening round of the 1986 High Mountain Din Riders Hare Scrambles Series. Coleman 'and Dunkelberger, fighting for position in the early laps, dropped behind race leader Danny Nenstiel. Nenstiel, aboard a 250 Husqvarna, took the holeshot and led by two and a half minutes after one lap around the 8.5-mile course, Nenstiel held his lead for the next three laps as 155 other riders followed, all vying for top position in their respective classes. On the last lap Nenstiel's luck ran out, along with his gas, and Coleman and Dunkelberger battled it out, with Coleman reaching the checkered first by a slim 18-second margin. Walker blitzes D-38 Buzz Bomb By Bob and Diane Bell PLASTER CITY, CA, APR, 20 Steve Walker took his Danny's Machine Works/C-M Cycle/ Knobby Shop Internationalsponsored Honda CRSOO to first overall in the third aBnual AMA District 38 l25cc class Buzz Bomb 100 Hare Scrambles. "It was most definately a pretty good day," stated Walker after his win. "Everything ran real well the whole race." Second overall and first in the 250cc class was Imperial Valley Cycle Center· and HRP-sponsored Todd Kennedy on a Yamaha. The course covered a wide variety of terrain throughout its 25 miles, ranging from a flat-out lakebed to first gear goat trails as it wound through the mudhills. Kennedy had done his homework pre-running the start and was the first rider through check one at Tucker's Trench. Walker was close in tow after coming back from a poor start. "I got a terrible start off the line, but I took a different line than everyone .else and was up to third at first check," Walker said later. Walker was quickly into second and set his sights on Kennedy's dust. Kennedy held the lead through the mudhills but when he came back down into the flats Walker opened up his big Honda and smoked into the .lead. "I had a pretty good lead until I got over by tree lane, then Walker passed me and he was gone!" said Kermedy. Ar the end of the first loop, Walker had extended his lead as Kennedy ran second followed by an open Honda trio of Phil Means (Parker Motor Honda/ Answer Products/Means Machine), Tom Moen (IVCClHall- man), and XR350-mounted Jimmy Means (Parker Motor Honda/Answer Products/Means Machine). The remaini ng three loops saw Ii ttie exchanging of positions with the exception of Moen moving past Means for third overalL Wa-Iker stretched his lead at will and seemed to be in a class all by himself. A the finish, Walker looked as fresh as when the race started. "It was a great course, and I hada really great time today," said Walker. Kennedy cruised in second overall with an easy 250cc win. "After Walker passed me, it was kind of boring, no dicing, I was all alone the rest of the race." Second in the Open class w~nt to Moen, ahead of Phil and Jimmy Means. Second in the 250cc class went to Jeff Boyd who also took the 250cC' Amateur win at 10th overalL He was followed closel y by second place 250cc Amateur Ron Beatty, who fought his way up from a poor start to finish right behind Boyd at 11 th overall. Bruce Taylor rook the 125cc class win over a very sparce turnout, as this race was put on by the l25cc class. riders and there were no points for this event. Kalos wins LV arena cross By James Derek LAS VEGAS, NV, APR. 26 Fifteen-year-old Shaun Kalas rolled his Hondas to a pair of Vegas wins in the seventh round of the World Sports/AMA/ USHRA Arenacross Championships in front of 12,500 spectators at the Silverbowl in Las Vegas. The JT/ Lancer/American Hond<.l-sponsored rider made his fi rst appearance of the series an impressive one with victories'in both the 125 and 250cc Pro classes. He outpaced cast coasters Mike Bias and Tim Coombs for the I25cc win then came back to beat Bias and Scott Nielson in the big bike class. The Silwrbowl course wasJaid out around 11 four-wheel dri~t, mud run and was highlighted by a six-jump frolll stl't~tch and a pair of doubles down the back side_ Kalos used an inside line at the stan of the 125cc final to jump in frolll of Bias and O'Neal.
