Moen led at check one on the first loop and was never headed to the finish, lapping up to 16th overall. The 25-mile course was set up over very rough , rain-rutted terrain which worked riders and bikes to their limits. At the start, Kearny Mesa Yamaha's Rheynard Morgan was out front on his Yamaha VZ250and Ilying, Unfor- . tunately, he flew a little too fast and crashed, relinquishing his lead. "I got psyched out being in first and just threw it away," said Morgan. Moen picked up the hot line to check one and was off and sailing; Walker look over at the end of loop one with about a one-minute lead. Morgan and Walker stretched their lead every loop to take an easy win, covering 150 miles in just over three hours. Second place in the Open class went to the team of Craig Rens and Mark Nicot at seventh overall. The apparent second place Open team at the finish were Richard Ransdell and Fred Angelo, however, it was later found that Ransdell had missed check one on the first loop and the team was dropped a lap. In the 250cc class, it was another runaway victory for 'the IVCC team of Todd Kennedy and James Tucker. Kennedy had to be push started off th e line as his bike wouldn't start. " I was up to around 15th or 20th at the testle and was up to second overall by check one," stated Kennedy.
