H art go t down to bu siness a nd began wo rking h is wa y up through the pack, while Furlong cha lle nged Ragan for th e lead . H art quickl y dispensed o f Furlong th en set his sights on th e lead er, Ragan. T he Yamaha rider jumped into the lead im media tel y foll ow ing the gree n flag, whi le Carl Meyer , Doug Ma yer, Bob Collier and J im Kidman pursued : As the pack spread out, Meyer and Mayer battled it out right down to th e end for seco nd pl ace. Ma yer would div e hard into the turns, braking la ter than Meyt.t, pulling in side of Meyer only to have Meyer pull a way o n th e stretch, leaving Mayer to settle for third.
