Enduro action from the 100 Mile South Jersey Scramblers' AMA National Championship saw Dick Burleson taking the overall with a score of 990. Bob Popiel put his Husky in the top spot for the A riders. Giacomo Agostini won the 500cc class at an international road race in Modena, Italy on his MV Agusta after Phil Read crashed his Suzuki in its debut race in the first corner. Walter Villa won the 250cc class and Paolo Bianchi took the 125cc class. Team Honda's teenager Marty Smith won the Pontiac Supereross with a 4-1-2-1 score to edge teammate Pierre Karsmakers, who tallied a 1-2-1-7 score. Third place went to Kawasaki's Jimmy Weinert who was followed by KentHowerton on a Husky. In the 500cc support class, Rich Eierstedt continued Honda's winning ways by taking the win over Suzuki's Gary Chaplin. Rick Hocking won his third straight Cal Rayborn Memorial Race which was held at South Bay Speedway in San Diego, California. Hocking beat rookie Expert Steve Eklund and Gene Romero to take the win. Scott Pearson led the Junior class wire-to-wire despite a restart caused by Ricky Graham's crash; Ted Davidson finished second behind Pearson. Meanwhile, in the Novice class Steve Carrillo edged Eddie Lawson and Tim McWorter to take the win. Desert racer Cordis Brooks dominated the Shamrock Motorcycle Club's Two Day Qualifier in California City, California,on his Bultaco Pursang-. Brooks beat Bultaco rep Mike Hannon. The 350cc class was won by Penton-mounted Carl Cranke with the 250cc class going to Hannon.
