Huffman (Yaml Kaw) won the 60cc A and 80cc B classes while Gmves (Han) did the dirty deeds in the 125 and 2SOcc B events. The days big Pro winners were l25cc Pro vicLOr Gary Beyer (Han), who aced both 125cc contest and Jeff MacDonald (Yam), winner of the 250cc Pro moLOS. By fartheday's fa test class was the combined Pro's moLOS. MOloone had Taylor Honda's Gary "Bad Boy" Beyer mOLOr inLO the lead ahead of local product Kenny Olsen and Ponland area rider Grayson Han, both on Kawasakis. Beyer mOLOred away with the race while Olsen held off Han in an across-the-line shooLOut for second over MacDonald, who wa LOpS in the 250cc ponion and 125cc riders Keith Foidel (Han) and Virgil Bodenkamp (Kaw), who was fifth in the 125's. . MaLO two had Beyer agalll burst off the IlIle LO lead the pack through the :vh.~p:~~-???~_:vit_h. _~J..aska trans- plant MacDonald houndin~ from behind LO set up one of the day's !x'st ballks. Beyer, MacDonald and Han were usin~ each other for traction until the later stages of the maLO when Beyer decided enough was enough and pulled away. MacDonald had allempted LO make his move, but picked the wrong line and unloaded on the last lap which put 01 en inLO econd, but well back of Beyer. MacDonald remounted in time to salvage a third with Foidel and Hart close behind. Beyer took LOp ca h payoff with his I-I flawlessness over Olsen (2-2) and the 4-3 tally of Foidel. Kawasaki-mounted Huffman manhandled a good-sized field of 60cc AlBIC riders on the Honda-Yamaha of Roseburg Kawasaki after nabbing the holeshot ahead of fellow Kawasaki pilot Jason "the Jammer" McCormick (ScottiPJ l/Kaw). Huffman had his work cut out for him in the form of McCormick, who kept hi sights glued LO Huffman and stayed within two turns of Oregon's fastest 60cc rider to the finish. Chris Paterson (Kaw) won the B ponion of maLO one over Ryan Leach (Han). The second time out had Huffman, McCormick and Paterson making a Kawasaki 1-2-3 sweep of both moLOS. Corey Fuller, also aboard a KX,won the C class ahead of fellow Kawasaki mini-mounted maniacs Mikey Ulven, Joey Garnet, Mark Mahlum and Todd Kibble. Huffman then came right back to whip the 80cc B contestants, but had LO follow lone A rider Jeff Daily (Team Green Kaw), who was the winnerof the first seven lap swapfest. The second time out saw Huffman hooking up the best to lead Daily around the loamy sandlined track and rode one of the best maLO of his young, promising career. Huffman held Daily at bay for ix of the even laps. That's when the older, more experienced Daily took Huffman by urpri e in a full throttle pass LO nab the maLO win. Huffman was still LOpS in his class and carded I-I rides over Danny Ulven (Kaw), who went 2-2 and the 3-3 rides of McCormick. Kelly Whelchel (Kaw) and Hondamounted David Eakin had a bloody ballie in the first 250cc B ontest for LOpS in the maLO, which ended in a victory for Whelchel and a crash for Eakin. Joel Jamison (Kaw) and KTM rider Bob Leach filled the 2-3 spots in Eakin's demise allhl'coll1plnio,l. Blil in maLO IWO, Whelchel took his turn at tasting a nonhern Oregon "soil sample" and headed for the pit area which left the race wide open. Graves pushed his Krause Racing Honda )1112 _t11..(·_ !(~l~_ ~1!1~" _ll;~I~~i.!IKl'jl.!'il.! .. while Leach rode in third in the 16rider field. Graves weill on LO take the maLO win over Eakin, Leach, Dave Fox (Kaw) and Jamison. Graves grabbed the overall posting 4-1 rides. Graves had a much easier time in the 125cc B class, dominatin~ both IS-rider mota on his Honda. MaLO one had Graves lead fellow Honda riders Dana Anderson and Dean Brundidge to the checkered flag. Brent Kmemer (Suz) was one rider more than ready to work out the kink of the winter layoff - he captured both 250cc Amateur moLOS, although he had LO ward off Mark Simmons (Han) throughout the first go-'round. Simmons established a big lead quickly in mota one when the two riders directly behind him triggered a pile-up in the first turn. However, Kraemer was moving rapidly through thepackandwaswithinstrikingditance by lap two. Fredette styles Clear Lake ice By Jack Stueve LAPORTE, IN, FEB. 23 Kawasaki-mounted Jeff Fredette's ability to perform feats of cycling magic is legendary among his contemporaries_ This ability aided him in sweeping every division entered at Clear Lake after less than a spectacular beginning. Fredette, who was testing new combinations for next season, discovered quickly which ones were not an advantage. One discove.ry found while tipping over in the first 125cc heat race prompted further tuning. From that point, the rest of the troops were in real trou ble. Don Muhlenbruch and Danny Brown, two of Illinois' more consistent performers, struggled in vain to keep the Engle Kawasaki of Freeport, Illinois, rider in check. Class 400 competition was much the same as Dan Weicht, Chris Stith and Danny Brown came up hart against Fredette's incessant charge. Knowing this was the last race of the season, the Open class pilots were primed LO give their best efforts. First lap crashes claimed a number of victims, promoter Jon Schultz being one of the unfortunates. Former winner, Schultz, and his machine both received stud rash after an overeager racer used Schultz as the cushion for a first turn bank shot. After the restart the pack was headed by ace Michigan pilot Chris Reimers' extra strong Honda thumper. The booming fourstroke engine spoke authoritatively but the message was ignored by the chassis. Hampered by tight traffic and less than ideal directional control, Reimers reluctantly turned first place over LO Fredelle. Nick Bunnell, last week's winner, had tough sledding going against the front-running squad of ruffians. Bunnell and Earl Banley squabbled briefly over third until Bartley spoiled his chances by gelling into the ice chip cushion and losing his drive. Results SIDE HACKS: 1. Mike Haney (Haney); 2.
