The March 23 Dragbikel National Championship Drag Race Series round at Commerce, Georgia, saw Elmer TreLL (Kaw) win the Top Fuel final, Richard mith ( uz) take the Pro Stock win, and Willie Lee Foster ( uz) come out on top in the Funny Bike final. . Pennsylvanian Ed lojak (Hus) won the March 23 Hurricane Mills (Tennessee) National Championship Hare Scrambles. Geoff Ballard (CA) was second and Tony Hendon (Yam) was third. Defending National Champion John Martin (CAl was fourth. Rick Stetson (Suz) won the Pro tock final which was run in conjunction with the NHRA Gatornationals drag race car meet in Gainesville, Florida, on Sunday, March 23. Defending champ Terry Vance (Suz) set new records at 8.19 seconds/163 mph in qualifying, but redlighted in the first round. Doug Toland won the Toyota/Budweiser Formula USA race at Willow Springs in Rosamond. California. on March 23 on his GSX1100powered endurance bike followed by the Suzuki of Scott Gray and the Kawasaki of Earl Roloff. Toland also won the 750cc Stock Production class on a GSXR750 with Gray and Roloff once again finishing second and third; the Kerker Superbike race win went to Yamaha-mounted Jim Vreeke. 2 The Orlando (Florida) Supercross which was scheduled for April 19 has been cancelled. According to Bob West of the promoting organization. World Sports. refunds to advance ticket purchasers are being processed. The CMC Golden State National's 250cc Pro class and the Suzuki Quad howdown from the Carlsbad, Californla, round will air on American Sports Cavalcade on the ashville Network on April 13. \ An AMA 500/125cc National Championship MX Series round has been scheduled for Hollister. The shift from Sunday wal made to accommodate the first live telecast of the event by ABC. Previous Carlsbad 600cc MX GP events were shown on the network's Wide World of Sports show on a tape delay basis. The AMA Camel Pro eries half mile at the Manzanita Raceway in Phoenix, Arizona, has been firmly scheduled for Saturday night, April 26. Two new cia.. structures have been developed for the AMA/ Honda National Amateur Motocross Championship at loretta lynn's Dude Ranch. according to an AMA press release. A new class for riders over 25 years old will be called the Plus 25 and two new C cla..esfor Beginners or Novices has been instituted. The 125cc 12-16 year old classes have been changed to B or Intermediate only and have been made into two classes. 126cc . B Stock 12-16 and 126cc B Modified 12-16. The 126ccAand260cc A classes for Experts have been changed from Stock and Modified to Modified only. Gardena, California's A cot will be a- busy place the first week of April, with the introduction of the Ascot Motorcycle Speed Week. CMC's Suzuki Spring Classic MX Series kicks of[ the week on April 2, followed by the opening of AMA Speedway racing at Ascot Park's South Bay Stadium on April 3, the Gardena Gold Cup AMA Regional Half Mile on April 4, and the AMA Camel Pro Series TT on April 5. The CMC motocross is not being held on April 4, as originally advertised in error. The Director of the California Depertment of Transportation hal said that High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lanes on State Route 237 will be opened to motorcycle use in April. California hal prevented motorcycle use of leveral HOV (or car pool) lanes throughout the state despite federal law requiring that motorcycles be allowed to use luch lanes. Yoshimura R&D of A.merica's Dave Wolman says he's working on some sort of warranty program for riders whose GSXR750 Suzukis broke due to problems with race kit parts sold by Yoshimura. The American Motorcyclist Association announced that it has not renewed an arrangement that allowed the motorcycle drag racing organization Dragbike to to function as the AMA'I drag racing affil· iate.ln an agreement which expired December 31, 1986, AMA authorized Dragbike to use the AMA insignia as part of its logo and name. According to a recent AMA presl release, the AMA will continue to sanction drag racing in the U.S., but not under the nameAMA Dragbike. Honda's Eric Geboers of Belgium has committed to racing in the June 14-15 Magoo Invitational benefit motocross being held at Prarie City OHV Park in Sacramento, California. Proceeds from the event will go to injured motocrosser Danny "Magoo" Chandler. The overall winner in the recent Motocross Cat Coloring Contest wal Dave Beaumont, who also topped the Expert 17-66 cia..; Mitch Ikemoto was second. Tara A. Huner. 6. won the BMX 0-6 class, with Aliya H. Miller, 6, second. Chris Weedon, 9. won the BMX 7-9 class, with Joey Jelsa, 8, lecond. Toney Creone, 12, won the Mini 10-13 cia.. ahead of Patrick Slate. 10, and Karen Weber, 1 6, won the Novice 14-1 8 class
