FEB. 16 Jim Chester and Todd Adams matched wheels in th e 125cc Youth and 250cc B divisions a t Sandhill MX in th e fin al round of AMA D istri ct 29's Thi rd Annual Carolina Winter Series. Chester edged Adams for th e 125cc Youth honors whil e Adams carne o u t o n to p of a ried sco re with Ch ester to win th e 250cc B cla ss. Damon Bradsh aw was in th e hunt for th e I25cc Youth hon ors a nd won th e first moto a fter gell ing by Chester. Whi le lead ing th e seco nd m oto, h ow ever, BC/Fox-backed Bradshaw wa s sha ken up in a co llis io n with a lapped rider a nd DNF. J In the second rnoto Adams repeated his holeshot, but, this time, he held on to th e lead 10 win over Ches ter. Ch ester had to settle for second-place go ld behind Adams. Johnny McCoy posted 8-510 clinch th e ser ies victory, nine points over runner-up Vick Dyer. " I wanted thi s seri es win ," said McCoy, "and I co u ldn ' t a fford a crash or a DNF. so I rode very conservativel y." The closest series baule came in th e Junior Mini division, where Bra d McKee won th e title, three points ahead of Carl Fogle. Fogle scored I- I for th e da y, but McKee's 2-2 was enough to win th e point rac e. McKee had taken over th e series lead last week when Fogle suffered a DNF due to a broken ch ain. Jonathan Tru ll earned top 250cc C honors via his 3-1 after teammate Way ne Teal was slowed in th e second moto when his Kawasaki's silencer became clogged. Teal corrected the problem and fin ished 14th 10hold on to his point lead , David Eller finished third overall for the day and was series runner-up. Kawasaki/Fox-backed Rod ney Barr ran away wi th bo th 125cc A rnotos whi le point leader Mike Looney and New J ersey's Mark Lachowicz ba ttled for second-pla ce honors . CP R / Somerset County Suzuki 's Lachowicz edged Looney in thei r Iirst-rnoto dice. but Looney held on to th e adva n tage o ver La ch owicz in th e secon d mot o, Looney ca me out on top of their tied sco re for seco nd. " I liked th is trac k," sa id La chow icz, " It made th e 10-ho ur d riv e worthwhile.
