It looked to be a d yn am ite da y with warm temperatures a nd sun ny skies, wi th riders a ttend ing a ll the wa y from so u th Florida in pu rsui t o f series points. H ow ever, the race was put o n ho ld due to a racer bein g inj ured in p ra cti ce. T he a m bu la nce was dela yed , a nd th e bac k-up a mbu la nce wa s sent o n a nother emergen cy, dela ying th in g s even furt her. After a lmos t a th ree-h ou r del ay, th ings got un derway. Ma rt in , o n board a H onda , carne ou t charging a nd led bo th motos in the O pen class. T h e first rno to saw Jay Flesh er (Ya m) start in seco nd , Pete H amm ock (Ka w) th ird , Todd La ncaster (M-S ta r) fourth and Doug Bu llard fro m Dougl as o n a Suzuki was fi fth . T he second lap , Bulla rd banzaied his wa y to fourt h a nd pushed H amm ock. Bu lla rd p u lled the plug on yet a nother rider o n la p four as he zipped h is way around H a m m ock . Bu lla rd was n 't goi ng to g ive in so eas y a nd took back h is third -place a nd held it to th e checkered . As the O pen class en ded results sta yed the same. In o rde r at th e flag it was Ma rtin, Flesher, Bullard, H am mock a nd Lanca ster. T he seco nd mor o H am mock was the o ne 10 first go after Ma rt in , Flesh er th ird , Bulla rd a nd Lancaster fourth and fift h .
