Dennis Stephenson had a co me -fro m -beh ind victory in the 125cc Intermediates. going 2- 1 for the overall. Scott Stone took the overall in 125cc Junior division two action, winning ea ch moto. In the 80cc 12-16 contest, it wa s Brian Gibson out of Sylmar ca p tu ring the overall via a 2-1 tally o n the day. And in the 250cc Intermediate division. Michael Craig topped th e field with 1-2 rides on th e da y a s Tom Brown won both motos for first overall honors in the 250cc Juniors. In th e first moto of th e 500cc Intermediates, Reynolds took th e hol eshot and never looked back. By th e seco nd lap he had a lead of six seco nds which ex tended with each turn . Runn ing a distant second was Mark J ones. with Stev e Piattoni third a nd Kevin Fringer in fourth. The field remained in th e sa me positions throughou t th e moto whil e trying to keep up with th e blistering pa ce set by Reynolds. In moto two, Greg Sheehan grabbed the holeshot, o n ly 10 drop quickly 10 fifth . Reynolds wa s in co m ma nd by th e second lap , a nd th is time it was Piattoni wh o held seco nd to th e checke rs, foll owed by Fr in g er in third . Th e fir st moto of th e 125cc Intermedi at es sa w Ken Arnol d shoot o u t 10 the lead, bu t he was quickly passed by Ka wa sa ki rider Stephen son wi th J eff Mabery in hot pursuit. By the second lap, Mabery had closed the gap to just over one second a n d gaining. Running in third was Chris Young (Yam), who wa s getting his fair share of pressure from Lowell Thompson (Kaw) , Up front, Mabery m ade his move on Stephenson Ior the lead. Thomson di splaced Young for third, but Stephenson's efforts to reg-din the lead from Mabery fell sho rt a t th e checkered. In rnoto two, Stephenson holeshot the first turn with Mabery right behind. Thomson was third this time holding off Honda rider Dallen MeKenney. Brian Pryor held fifth . The front runners were within inches of ea ch other but the order remained the sa me at the checkers with Stephenson taking the overall via hi s 2-1 tally, Mabery second overall ( 1-2) and Thomson third over (3-3). all SCOll Stone captured th e holes hot in the first rnoto of the I25cc Junior division two co ntest, pulling out to a slight lead over Matthew Vulk. The third spot was held by Todd Broussard, and close behind in fourth and fifth were Billy McLaughlin and Larry Tuner. Up front, Stone was making good time, but he went down and remoun ted in fifth . McLaughlin was right th ere 10 pick up th e lead , bu t j ust inches sep ara ted th e top five rid ers . On the fo urth lap, Stone began riding like a wi ldman, passi ng riders a t ever y cha nce . H e moved right into secon d place a nd , with five turns left, recaptured th e lead and held it 10 th e checkers. Taking second wa s MeLaughlin , and third went 10 Brent Wh i te. Mo to two wa s it was Stone aga in co m ing fro m beh in d for th e win . McLa ughl in was leading off th e sta rt, bu t S tone was lurk in g beh in d . Fo llo wi ng th em was Whit e, Ron MOIllro ne and Paul Ma tthews. Sto ne made h is move o n lap three, th en Wh ite zapped McL a ugh lin for second. Running a distant fo u rth, Ma tth ews cre pt up o n McLaugh li n and took th ird 10 set th e order for th e finish . In the overall standings , it was Stone , Wh ite (3-2) a nd McLa ug h lin (2-4) in the to p th ree. Suzuki speedster Brian G ipson na bbed th e hol esh o t in the first BOcc Interm ed ia te 12-16 rnot o . Mark Ea sley, Chad Pederson a nd Doug HusIOn were in close p urs ui t. p u lli ng away from the rest of th e field. G ipso n was runn in g a strong first as Ped er so n a nd Easle y di ced for second. At th e checke rs it wa s Gi pson. Easley a nd Pederson in o rder. Moto two was a w ire-to-wire win for Ped erson. Randy Moody took co ntro l o f second off th e line, but was gelling heavy pressure from Gipson. In fourth was Phi llip Lawrence. fo llowed by Huston , Gipson finall y m ade a move on Mood y on a sma ll uphill 10 take control of second, whi le Lawrence m oved into third to set th e fini shing order. Gipson 's 1-2 earned th e overall win, and Pederson's 3- 1was good for second overall . Moody 's 4-6 tally netted the third o vera ll spot. Th e first moto of th e 250cc Intermediates had McKenney waste no time taking command of th e lead, with hard-charging Michael Craig close behind. Mabery a nd Reynolds were running mid pa ck, as both got bad sta rts . On lap three Crai g ca p tu red th e lead an d began to pull away. M ik e La Rocca was now in second . McKenney third, Thomson fourth . Thomson got by McKenney for third before th e checkers fell with Craig in the lead a nd L a Rocca second Th e seco nd m ot o was a ll Thomson as he smoked every body wire-to-wire. Craig held o ff La ROCGI for secondp la ce h onors. and Mabery a nd Gallag her finish ed fourth and fifth , repectivel y. Craig's 1-2 ca p tu red first overa ll , with Thomson ea rn i n g second p la ce overa ll via his 3-1 rides. In third overall was La Rocca (2-3). MOIO one of the 250cc Juniors ha d Ra nd y Fleisch er ta ke control early, leading Tom Brown and Brian Fountain in parade fashion to the checkers. Fleischer was docked a lap for cutting the track, giving the moto win to Brown. Moto two . it wa s Brown in th e lead, followed by Jim Taves and Graham Mi ller. Taves made a move on Brown through the whoops to grab the lead , but Brown was able to retake th e lead for the checkered flag. In third it was Andy Stix, whose 6-3 rides were good for second overall behind Brown. Third overall went 10 Fountain. (3-7 ) Results 60 O·B: 1. Larry Turner (Kaw); 2.
