Kirkc/aims Woodland victory By Derryl Anderson WO O DLAN D, WA, FEB. 2 Af ter a three-mon th la y-off, Longview's Dan Kirk brough t his H onda down for the scra m bles to go 1-1-2 and claim th e overa ll in the Four-Stro ke O pe n class held in Woodlan d today. Coming into turn one with the lead in mo to one was Steve Kend ig (Ya m ) foll owed by Kirk, J erry Hicks (Han), Becky Sch nei der (Ya m) a nd way back Rod Strodley and Dan Dickin son (Yam), who both tangled in the first corner and went down . Kirk wasted no time in flying by Kend ig in th e sweeper, but bo th riders remai ned super close right to the checkered flag. In th e back Dickin son, the season point lead er, was tryin g to ge t by Strodl ey everywhere, but every time he got close Stradley's roost of mud seemed to get Dickin so n righ t in the face. Beh ind the two lead ers a t th e fla g was H icks, Sch neider, Stradley and Dickinson. At th e start of rnoto two, Kendig got a little too a nxi o us a nd was sen t to the second row. Kirk got the scra tch, but ri ght behind him was Kendig, Dic kinso n , Schneider , H icks a nd Stradley. On th e second lap Dickinson slid under Kendi ~ a nd H icks moved by Schneider. Kir k was looking good but h e was unable to sha ke Dic kinson. T he track was drying out from the morning rains and th e insid e had a fast dry groove. Stradley moved by Schneider for fifth and th e finishing order was set. At the flag it was Kirk, Dickinson , Kend ig , H icks, Strodley a nd Schneider. In moto three several riders had mechan ical problems from th e previo us rnot o so they were g iven two minutes to fix th eir machines. Finally they were ca lled to the line. Taking the ho lesho t was Dickinson, who was surrou nded by Kirk a nd Kend ig a nd followed by Schneider, Strod ley a nd H icks . They were tightly bunch ed u nt il strin ging o u t over th e jump. In or der it was Dickinson, Kirk, Ken d ig, Sch ne ider, Stradley and H icks. Coming out of the small last corner Dickinso n slow ly coasted to a stop, a victim of a brok en throttle ca ble. Inher iting th e lead was Kirk, who was soon passed by Kend i . Strodle and H icks • J .I I J ' I JI I ~ .) 1 ) I L l JJ J 1 h J ~.
