The rest of the pack was desti ned for a sem i. Roo se and Stoc ks took th e two tra n sfers in the first semi but not wi th out heavy pressure from Ayers (Aa rn ro Tools). In the second semi Clay to n a nd Gerrard cla im ed the tra n sfer positions . It took one restart a nd lois of pa tience to get two rows of P ro s ready for th e A main. Push in g a ll the way thro ugh the east turns was Green, in front of Davis, Sullivan. Schnitzer , Aselti ne, Roose. Strong and G errard. Apparent ly. h e spun th e valve stem off the tube. Taking th e w in was a very happy Aseltine, followed by Strong, H aycoc k, Roose and Felt. At the n ag it wa s Green a nd Roose h eading 10 a hack -row start in the A main: In th e sta rt of the 250cc P ro A m ain , R oose and Auburn 's M ickey Fa y got tang led badl y o n the f ron t straigh taway. U n fortuna tely, Nati on a l n u m ber 13 Mi ckey Fay was too shaken to cont inue. It was totally wi ld tr yin g to get all o f th e a nxious P ro s lined up wi thout a nyone crossin g th e lin e. At the second res ta rt it was Mark R oo ks. o ut of a th ree-year retirement, ta ki ng th lead aboard th e fast Roger Sta n ley H o nd a . In th e first turn Mscich owski cras he d, and so did Aseltine a nd Ayers. After th e track was clea red, they lined up for th e third res ta rt. G reen moved hy W ilson a nd immedia tely started to pressu re Stro ng. Twice G reen went to St rong 's o u tside but co u ld n't quite ge t by.
