Austin MotoGP Canceled
T
he Covid-19 pandemic has
unsurprisingly claimed the
2020 Red Bull Grand Prix of The
Americas. After being postponed
to November 15-18 from the
original April 3-5, the changing
coronavirus situation across the
globe and in particular here in
the U.S. has forced MotoGP
rights holders Dorna to call time
on the 2020 race. The event will
return to Circuit of The Americas
on April 16-18, 2021.
"Big news! The fastest bikes in
the world will return next year for
an even bigger MotoGP Red Bull
Grand Prix of the Americas on
April 16-18, 2021!" wrote Circuit
of The Americas on their Insta-
gram page on Wednesday, July
8. "This year's event on Novem-
ber 13-15, 2020, has been can-
celed. Ticket holders will receive
an email with further information.
#AmericasGP"
Two days later, the FIM and
Dorna released a joint statement,
saying, "The FIM, IRTA and
Dorna Sports regret to announce
the cancellation of the 2020 Red
Bull Grand Prix of the Ameri-
cas. Previously postponed, the
ongoing coronavirus outbreak
and resulting complications now
sadly oblige the cancelation of
the event to be confirmed." CN
Bummer, but not
surprising. It's
official: there will
be no U.S. MotoGP
race this year.
