In a hotly co n tested rac e between Myth en and Honda 250cc rider George Hopper (Ma lle us Honda ), Mythen took th e hol eshot with H o p p er breathing down his neck. " I felt a lot of pressure from Hopper, and knew I cou ldn 't make a ny mistakes," commented Myth en later . Bostard had a bad start, a nd chased Mythen a nd H o p pe r, but couldn 't reel them in before the finish . It loo ked like it wo u ld be a nother Myth en win in the second moto as Mythen and Bostard dueled it out. Racing fender- to-fender, Bostard flew past My then on ajumpin the seventh lap. Mythen quickly recouped and was within striking distance when his back wheel smacked into a hole o ff a jump in th e last lap . With Myth en on th e gro und, Bosta rd swep t pas t the checkers. H is 3-1 score gave him th e overall Pro class win. H o nda rider Dal e Rayzor (Bro wn Race Prep / SD Racing/ A'rni Grips/ PJ I Cycle Oils ) duked it out with Yamaha rid er Doug DeLa y (Ken ny Ro berts Yamaha Shop-Modesto) to win th e 80cc Intermediat e cla ss. Rayzor gra bbed th e holeshot in th e first m oto , with DeLay and J eannie Prill ( Ka w) chas ing closely behind. DeLay p oured it on, but looped his bike off a jump in th e second la p . J u n ior rider Danny Nelson (Kaw) quickly took DeLay's second p lace position, on ly to give it ba ck 10 DeLay aft er he cras h ed his Kawasaki. Rayzor got th e holeshot in the second rnoto, but a determined DeLay cu t on the in side to ta ke th e second lap lead. Ra yzor reta liated by grabbing the inside line on an off -cam ber tu rn a nd powered his H onda past th e Yamaha. DeLa y's tries to pass Ra yzor were futi le, as Ra yzo r stra teg icall y maneuvered his machine to block a tte m p ted passes. Ra yzo r ra ced across the finish for a well-deserved win. The 250cc Pros started off an exci ting da y of racing with Coupe out firs t and Eric Eaton, Ku rt J orgen so n a nd Harriger close beh ind . H arriger hac ked his way u p to secon d place, but Co upe h ad a 10-secon d lea d a nd showed n o signs o f slowing dow n . Co upe ran away wi th th e m oto, T he seco nd moto sa w Coupe o ut fro nt again and Harriger with a better start this time. Hot on h is tail , H arriger chased Co upe the entire mo to , b ut h e co u ldn' t ge t arou nd; Coupe went on to take the overa ll. Ka w a sa k i -m o un ted , Hi -Poi n tsponsored Ha rriger dom inated th e 125cc P ro class in both motos, H arriger shot off th e line to ta ke the lead a nd stayed on the gas the entire dista nce 10 take the win. Coupe battered his way through the pack and was in second place, but on the last lap he had mechanical prob lems and dropped o u t on the last lap. Jim Cressa and Scott Meye rs battl ed all th e way with Meyers put ting the pass on Cressa on the Ia st lap 10 take a seco nd place fini sh . Larry Dashiell made it look easy , wi n ning both motos in the Open class. Allen Ber luti got the holesho t in the fir st rn oto , but Dash iell go t around on th e seco nd lap and went on to take th e checkered. In the seco nd moto, Dash iell shot o ut fir st a nd m oved aw a y from th e pack . Ber lu ti, Jimmy Taylo r a nd Tom Swee ney bat tled for seco nd. BerJuti stayed on the thro ttle and managed to keep them beh ind to take second. with Sweeney taking th ird. In th e Mini ranks 60cc Mini rider Beau Judge had an impressive da y.
