The Combined Pro class had Gar y Beyer acing th e second rnoto for th e ov erall laurels. Beyer finished seco n d in th e first 125/250/0pen Pro mot o behind local Ken n y Olsen and teammate J ohn Woodley. Woodley h eld off Open rider Ri ch ard Earle a n d 250 pilots Ri cky Bault and Eugen e Su zuki 's Larry Brumwell in the wet moto. The seco n d time out the track wa s much drier, but with the temperature hovering in th e high 20s, condition s were st ill di smal. Regardless of th e weather , th e riders put on qu ite a show with Beyer getting th e win for th e seco n d week in a row . As in years past. mororcyc lis rs have co me from across th e co u ntry to th e a n n ua l British Bike-In 10 view th e fin est th e British have 10 o ffer, with everyth ing from a Scott Flyin g Sq u irrel , Vincents, Matchless, Veloceues, Royal Enfields, AJ S's, Ari els and th e droves o f Triumphs, Nortons, a nd BSA's, di sp layed with th e di gn ity fittin g o f su ch a proud grou p. Th is yea r marked th e beg inning of th e Campbell 's Ch all en ge C up , a 20in ch-tall silver cup whi ch the overa ll winner wi ll ha ve th eir name engraved o n eac h year. The Campbell's Cha llen ge Cup was given to th e British Bike-In by Campbell's Repl acemen t Si lence rs o f Hedn esford, En gland, ma ker s o f replacem ent si len cers for ma ny of the o lde r British a nd Europeanmotorcycles, plus man y cu rre nt Euro pea n a nd J apanese brands. Th e j udges for th is year 's event were three well -respected men from th e British motorcycling co mm u n ity. Pa t Owens is a professor o f motorcycle me ch anics a t th e Los Angeles Trade T echnical College, and is a former service representat ive fo r Tri ump h of America , th e fo rm er U.S. dis tributor of Triu mph moto rcycles. Also acting as a j u dge was J ack Wilso n o f Big ' D' Cycle Ce nter in Dall a s, Texas. In th e years since 1955 when J o hnn y Allen set a land speed record a t the Bo nneville Sa lt Flats wi th a Trium p h pr epar ed by Wil son, Wilso n has set 63 land speed records with Triu mph m ot orcycles, so me o f wh ich still sta nd today . Woody Leone, Sr. served as th e th ird judge, a nd is th e o wne r of Le on e Cycl e Shop in Beaumont, Texas. Leo ne has been a dealer si nce 19·17 and pr epared motorcycles for suc h riders as Grand National Cha mpio n Ga ry N ixon , Ca rroll Resweber. Brunelle tops Texas hare scrambles SAN ANTON IO, TX, NOV . 10 The final race of th e Dirt Bikers Club o f San Antonio Hare Scra mbl es Series wa s a battle from sta rt to finish between Expert riders Mich a el Bradsh aw and Steve Brunell e. The two riders bl azed the trails o n ly seco nds a pa rt in this two-hour battle. Turn in g o n th e ga s a nd sett ing a blistering pace, Bradshaw held th e lead until hi s p it stop in th e fourth lap wh en Brunelle took over. However . Brunelle's lead was short -lived as h e also made a pit stop in th e next lap. Bradsh aw o nce again ga ined th e lead , followed closel y by Expertrider Todd Harris. Th e fight for first place continued until well into th e final lap, w hen Brunelle caught and passed Harris and Bradshaw to tak e the win. NOV. 3 Tiger Wingert rode his Honda to victory in th e last race of th e Pacific Northwest Motorcycle Associa tion 's seven -even t harescra m bles ser ies th is weekend. T he Mt. Baker Mo torcycle Club, wo rking with th eir Canad ian neighbo rs, ho sted th e scra m bles. To say the co u rse was wet was an understat ement. Two and a ha lf in ches o f rai n had fallen in th e 36 ho urs p rior to ra ce time. a nd it co nt in ued througho u t th e race. Th e sta rt a n d chec kp o in t wer e locat ed in a gra vel pit a nd th e six-mile course wound th rough tight trails and short stre tches o f logging road s. A straddle-t he-fende rs, dead-engine start wa s em p loyed with a ll classes except th e Juni ors in th e first wav e. When a ll wa s clea r', th e Juniors en tered th e co n test to race for two hours while th e o the rs wen t a tot a l o f three hours. Win gert was th e first 10 return to th e gra vel p it a nd co n ti n ued to lead the race to th e end, pi cking up a bo u t a minut e a lap o n hi s to u r of II laps. Ly le Du ro n so (Yam) and Mike Schmid t (Yam) were ha vin g a rea l shooro u t, a lthough not in th e sa me class. On the seven th lap , bot h pitted and Sc hmid t got out first , whi le Du ro n so was ha vin g trouble wi th hi s gas cap cross-t h readi ng.
