Ermolenko swep t th e Scratch side o f the program including a runawa y victory in the main. As Ermolenko (P ick Yo ur Part Auto Salv age/Pacific Coast Lam in a ting / Arai /jones Goggles/American Mik uni/STP/RK Ra cing Ch ain/AI Reed 's Pol ish ing/Frame Shop/Kat C ard/Car Tunes Weslake ) strolled onto th e track for the Handicap conso la tio n, he stop ped a nd sa id to th is writer, " L uce ro says he is go ing to beat me in th e Scra tch main." That is just how it sta rted out in th e Scra tch race: Lucero got the ga te from th e number two slo t and he was chased into th e fir st bend by Errnol enk o , Bob Oil and Shawn McC onnell. Ken Berry of Bakersfield was Club 's (CRC) grand prix in H u ngr y Valley . Kehoe motored to the 125cc win , w hi le Mcl.eod a nd Simons took top honors in the 250 a nd 500cc clas ses. Ya ma ha rider Mike Pa sca rella claimed the 80cc Expert win. The sta rt of th e 80cc race saw Joel Tokar sky jump o ut to a n ea rly lead , whi le Pasca rell a closelv followed. During th e seco nd lap: Pasca rella made hi s move a nd slipped past th e lead er, hut Tokarsky retaliated a la p la ter. But Pasca rell a was n't throug h ye t, Th e Yam a ha pi lot jammed back in to th e top spo t duri ng th e fourt h go-'ro u nd a nd never look ed back . Sim ons quickl y moved into second a nd started reel in g in McLeod as th e race progressed. Keh oe had a handl e in th e I 25cc class a fter passing john Drury ' for the lead . Eventuall y Simons roosted by th e leader over a fall aw ay jump and sta rted to pull a health y di stance over McLeod, wh o had a large adva ntage over Suzuki-mounted Rod Ri ch ardso n . At the fini sh, it was Simons taking th e 500cc win ove r Honda rider Eric Marnoch, Ruben Falcon (Yam), Mark Nation (KT M) and Greg Karnmerman (Yam) . McLeod held on to win th e 250s a head o f Ri chardson an d Zahrt. Kehoe easi ly fini shed fir st in th e 125cc class , beating Drury, Ri ch Truchinski (Hon ) and Sh awn Davis (H o n). Keh oe a lso teamed up with john Spar to smoke everyo ne in th e team ra ce; on ly th e team of Mik e Sixberry and Larry Thompson had a ch ance at th e win , but th ey sell led for second o vera ll instead, Scott Murphy and Landus Ken t fini shed third. Loc l rider R van H uffa man (Kaw) left the starti ng lin c behind th e rest of th e field to mak e th in gs more o f a ch a llenge, but a fter a lap, he wa s rig ht in th e th ick o f things fo llowcd by B rider T ravis Berry (Kaw) and Juni or d ivision Iront runner Jami e Co o k. Huffman quickly sepa ra ted him self from th e con testa llis in th c mot a 10 tak e a n easy win , w h ile Berry and Cook followed . Mot o two had Huffman again take o ff last from th e ga te la st, but it didn ' I tak e long for Oregon 's fa stest 60cc rider 10 swoop up the pack a n d go on 10 victory with a I-I ta lly o ver Berry, wh o wa s th e Intermedi at e winner. Cook a lso went I-I in th e Junior cla ss o ver Roby Leach (H a n), wh o went 4-2, an d j oe Don Ireland (H a n). The I 25cc C cla ss was loaded with riders, making turn o ne 'a t th e sta rt chao tic. Mikc NOll (Kaw) has been on a reign of terror as of late, an d today wa s much of th e same a s he took the lead a n d held off driving adva nces by Todd "Altered Mind" Alter (H o n) 10 land th e first rnot o win. Alt er took seco nd a nd Darrell T ice (Hon ) third. Moto two wa s aga in NOll 'S race ; the Kawasak i speeds ter had Kyle Brooks (H a n) chas in g him , but in th e end, NOll prevailed for a I-I romp over Brooks (4-2), Alt er (2-4), 'Tice's 3-5 a n d Chad Egge's (Suz) 7-3 tall y. Honda-mounted Rick Bault (H on of Roseburg ) ca me o u t of semi-retirement in anticiparion of a Pro class win , but found out the hard way that Olson (Yam Sport Center ) was on the ga s a nd wasn't going to give up easily in the co m bined Pro class.
