Bozarth double winner at Albany SX By Clay Light ALBANY , OR, SEPT. 2 Rorax 560-mount ed Rick y Bozarth demolished th e Professional classes at Albany Speedway 's Labor Day Supercross . Bozarth went for a four-for-four tall y in rlu- Open a nd 250cc P ro classes. In th e fir st Open P ro mot o r it wa s Bozarth (AT KlPB IIRtx) lead ing a co m bine d race o f Pro/Intermediates and wa s being chased by fell ow Pro Jeff Reed (Yam ). Recd hung- in there for a co u p le o f laps , but after th at, th e ra ce was all Bozarth 's to th e finish . Th e Intermediate portion went to Gary Beav er (Ka w) , who placed third in th e ra ce. The second m oto wa s ag ain Bozarth 's as he out-powered Re ed and Intermediate Alan O 'Brien. A Mini Pro race was held in between motos and was a single- more ex h ibition . Pro J er e " T he Strecker " Meeker (Kaw) vaulted into th e lead a t th e d rop o f th e ga te to go unch all en ged to th e fini sh to beat Ron R obinson (Kaw ). In third rode " O ld Man " Winn in th e midst o f tr affi c until findin g th e m achine to be too much , letting local rider Wes H ansen (Kaw ) in to th e posit ion to th e finish . Bo zarth put h is Suzu ki -su pport ride in to the lead of the 125/250cc P ro class o n the firs t of n in e la p s o n th e pou ndi ng wh oop-de-doo-lined tra ck, fo llowed by ex- Mini n ash Vincent Warren (Yam) a nd Kawasaki 125 pilot Gary Beyer. Beyer did a credi ble job o f h old in g- off 250cc riders Chad Klin gbeil (Han ) and Eug-ene"s Larry Bru mwell (Suz) to ride in third all th e way to th e finis h behi nd wi n ner Bo za rt h a nd seco nd p lace Warr en. Moto two was much like th e first a s Boz arth burn ed th e com pe ti tio n . Bozarth goes q uite well o n a 250 , as hi s com petitio n found o u t whe n h e flat out flew away from Warren , wh o co n tro lled seco nd ah ead o f Beyer. Bozarth had an easy time en roule 10 hi s second I-I ta lly o f lh e da y for lOp cash payoff o ver Warren's 2-2. One of lh e mOSl exci lin g cla sses o f the day was th e l25cc B classes runoffs . The first mo to was a sIan -la-fi n ish duel bel ween N ick Blasdell (S uz) an d Honda rider Tony G raves. The duo wai ted until the last corner 10 de cide th e winne r after passi ng- and repassing co nt in ua ll y throughout the sixlap m oto, Blasdell edged Graves by a wh eel , with Ed Po rt z getting third ahead of Dana And erson (Han) and Scott Adair (Han ). Th e second m o to was a nothe r show o r rnaneu vera bili tv by Ni ck Bla sd ell , whil e Dan Blasdefl pressured from behind. The Blasd ell s went o ne -two 10 th e fini sh , with Po rt z again third ahead o f Gra ves and Anders on. Th e o vera lls sa w N ick Blasdell ( I - I) , Dan Bla sdell (4-2) an d Po rt z (3-3) in th e top three at th e trophy presentation. An Old Timer/ 30-40 A class wa s also a classic, with th e 30-40 pilots leadin g th e way . I Tyson Vohland swept all four 125 and 250cc Pro motos at th e Continental Motosport Club's (C MC) Trans-Cal Series Tune U p race a t Hungry Vall ey SVRA today. H is fi rs t o verall victory came in the 125cc class an d he eas ily a ut-distanced eventua l seco nd o vera ll Doug O'Donnell . Dav id Antillion cra sh ed in th e firs t race a nd could o n ly manage a fifth , but ca me ba ck with a vengeance a n d recorded a second 10 Vohland 10 wind up th ird o vera ll . Vohl and faced off aga in st 18 oth er 250cc Pros later and thi s lime held ba ck a second mot o charge from Willie Surratt, who wa s making h is co meba ck from a broken foot su sta ine d at th e CMC Western States Championsh i ps sev eral months a go . Ev en th ough he srill limped noticeably, he wa s a ble to race h a rd en ough 10 co me from n earl y last place in th e First event 10 tak e third . Davis look hi s Anc horage Cycle Sal es Yamaha s to overa ll wins in th e 250 a n d 500cc Expert classes o n Sunda y, a nd by doing so clinched th e ch amp io ns h ips in both cla sses a nd sa t o u t Monda y's raci ng. In h is II-year ca ree r, Davis has dominated th e far no rthwest scen e a n d never 10Sl a title defen se or bid. T he main race o n Su nday was for secon d place in th e 250cc Experts. Erik Munson o f Fairbanks was favored to be Dav is' to p challen ge r, but ch a in p roblems kept him o u t of co n ten tion. In stead, Suzuki Motor cycle a n d Marine-sponsored Doug Longwell took th e number two SPOI o ver Kevin ' Schaub on a H artley Motors' Honda. Longwell hail s from Florida and u sed his sand experien ce to good use o n th e Kin caid Park circ u it. Th e 500cc Expert class was a ca kewa lk for Davis wh o led both o f Su nda y's rn oto s from sta rt 10 fini sh . The run ne r-up posi tion went to Da vis' Anchorage Cycle Sa les ' team m ate Jeff MacD onald. With Da vis o n th e side lines wi th h is title sec ured, MacD o n a ld went for Monda y's win . It wasn 't easy th o ug h , as he traded moto wins with Schaub. H o wever, MacD o nal d clai med the overa ll with th e better seco nd malO finish . Jeff Ro skell ey looked to repea t hi s 500cc championship o f la st yea r, but dropped out of both th e 500 and 250cc classes when he rea lized he couldn'lwke firsl. Roskelley concentra led his efforts in lhe 125cc Expert class but al lhe end lost au! to Mun son . Desp i te lhe same cha in p roblems he experienced in th e 250cc Expert class, Mu nson lOok h is Nonhern Po wer Sports ' Suzuki 10 lh e 125cc Expen Sla te Cha mpions hip w ilh a 6-DNF on Su nda y a n d a D N F-l on Monda y. J oe Good, a Suzu ki MOlorcycle an d Ma rine-sporisored RM , used slrong, co ns istent rid ing 10 gra b seco nd place for the series.
