Du ane McDowell a nd Ramsey Harris had th eir Yam aha o u tfi t in third pl ace, but a t th e en d of th e fir st lap th e team of John a nd Perry Mellio h ad found a way aro un d th e Harris/McDowell team for th e third slot . All eyes were focu sed on th e duel for th e lead between th e Palfreymans an d Wh itneys. The battle was fierce; th e Whitneys were search ing for a ny kind of opening to m ake th e pass. Although th ey tr ied a number of times, th e Palfreymans held on to win. Moto two was 'much the same, but the Whitneys grabbed the holeshot.1t didn't la st long, however , as they lost th e lead ove r a jump when th e Palfreym ans flew by. Once again , the Wh itneys pressured for th e lead but co u ld n' t m ak e th e p ass. During one a tte m p t, th e Whitneys stalled the motor a n d let th e Palfreyman /Mellil o by for seco n d, a n d that was it.The win and overa ll went to the Palfreyman s ahe ad o f the Pal freym an /Mel• lio team an d th e Wh itneys. ~ C'J ....
