T he riders faced a dusty track tha t made conditions not so idea l for th ose out of th e to p 10. H owever, the du st didn ' t 2 hamper the performances of Scott Brown, Butch Sm ith, John Crow, Jeff Reynolds and th e winning sidecar team of Phillip and Victor Palfreyma n , all claiming wins in th eir respec tive classes. Curt Trimb le (Han), Ward Bassett (Kaw) a nd Chris Young (H a n) rou nded o u t the top five. By th e third lap, Bro wn had a co mforta ble lead , whi le Bassett passed both Trimble and Lewis for second. Sh ortl y after, David Fo ltz (Kaw) slipped into fifth making the top five Brown , Bassett , Lewis, Fo ltz and Young. Trimble dropped back a cou p le of places. By th e time the white £lag ca me out , Brown "as wa y ou t in fron t of the pack , but Foltz was putting heavy pressure on Lewis. A few turns la ter , Fol tz motored by a took over th ird. At th e finish , it was Brown, Bassett, Foltz, Lewis a nd Young. Kawasak i-mounted Jimmy Palmer shot into the lead at the start of th e seco nd mot o, bu t Brown ja mmed by Palmer shortly after a nd q uickly extended his lead. Bassett eventuall y mov ed into second whi le Sea n Bla ncha rd too k over third. Bro wn went on to easi ly win th e mota and tak e the overall. Bassett finished second ah ead of Blan ch ard. In th e 80cc In termediat e 9-11 class, But ch Smith and his Suzuki completely dom i'nated th e both motos, In ro und one, Smith grabbed th e holeshot a nd never had to look back; if he had , he wo uld have seen another Suzuki rider. Sean Thorton, lurking in the d istan ce, while runnin g all a lone in third was Den nis Dahlin (Kaw ). Sm ith maintain ed a bo u t a five second margi n thro ug ho u t the race a nd took th e wi n ahead of T horton and Dahl in . ' Thorton blas ted into th e lead a t the start of the second mot a bu t Smith was glued to hi s rea r fender. T ho rto n tried to sha ke Smith but it didn't work - by the end of the la p , Smith had overtaken the lead, a nd 'the rest of the mota was all his . Smith took his seco nd win of the da y follo wed by Thorton a nd Dahlin. S u zu k i -mount ed John C ro w smo ked the rest of th e 125cc Beginner division two class to the first tum in the first moto. As he headed into the nex t straight, Cro w was closely followe d by Dari n Driscoll (Suz), Rich a rd Zeig ler (Kaw) a nd Neal Taylor . Du rin g the first lap, Zeigler flew by Driscoll over the doubles taking over the second position, whi le Brian Sanchez (Kaw) moved into fift h. The top five riders stayed close throughout the mota but no passing was' made Crow took th e win followed by Zeigler, Driscoll , Tay lor and Sanchez. J imm y Wilkey (Ka w) was th e ear ly mota leader at the beginning of mo to two just ahead of Crow and Tay lor. A few laps lat er , Taylor roos ted by Crow and found himself in th e lead wh en Wilkey dropped out. Crow dropped back to fourth after getting passed by Jim Conner (Han) and San ch ez. J amie Well s (H a n) got in on th e act a nd started press uri ng Cr ow a nd passed him sho rtl y after. Well s' cha rge, however, didn't end th ere as he also pa ssed Sanchez and Conner before th e end of the race. Taylor took th e win ahead of Wells and Crow, who made la te-mo ta passes on Sanchez and Co nner. In the first 250cc Intermediate division two moto, Doug Belcher (Kaw) jumped into the lead closely pursued
