Racers work th eir way to three different main events through qualifying events. Kelly Butler (Anc horage Cycle Sales/Yam ) didn 't transfer directl y to th e A main and had to work hi s way up. By th e time the A main ca me a long, Butler had a lready raced three times a nd held down the number three position behind Pomeroy. Heat two winner J eff Roskelley wa s havin g difficu lty gelling around slower riders aft er a bad start. Roskel ley eventuall y got by Butler a nd was cha lle ngi ng th e veteran Pom eroy for seco nd . The two had a grea t bailie, but yo u th overca me experience wh en 17-year- old Roskell ey stu ffed th e 33year-o ld -Po meroy on th e last lap. Four-Hour By Alice MacPherson WESTWOOD, B.C., CAN, AUG 25 " It went just the way I wrote the script," said Bruce Cherwonka as his riding .p artn er, Perrie Turner, crossed the finish lin e o ne lap ahead of seco nd pl ace Van couver Suzuki a t th e Westwood Motorcycle Raci ng Club's first end urance rac e in a number o f years . Two classes, U n der 600cc and Over 600cc, competed for $8000 in prize money. From th e drop of th e sta rt fla g on a perfect LeMans sta rt , th e co m pe ti tion wa s hot. Van couver Suzuki fielded th e team o f Gary Goodfellow a nd T om Walther, and th ey had no trouble tak in g th e ea rly lead, ahead of Team Steve 'n ' Bill , co ns istin g of Steve Dick a nd Bill Yearwood on a GSX R. Rounding out th e o bvio us cho ices for a winner from th e first hour were th e North Shore team of Da ryl Cornwell and Ken Stobbart (G SX R) hot on Goodfellow's trail. G oodfell ow sta rte d o u t fast and then upped the pace to co ns istent 1:12s, giving him a 40-second lead in th e first half-h our. Walther wa s ab le to lay back a n d wh en hi s turn came , h e ran a t steady I:14s. In the U n de r 600cc class, it was T eam Fa ceplant with Steve Crevier a n d Steve Roscoe out front from th e beginning. Cr evier 's biggest rivals , Ken LaLonde and Rand y Kingston, were running a sim ilia r RZ350 at sim iliar times as Team Protech , Gary Berge and John Schwarze s ty led .'
