Alan Christian tagged " Showtirne" Bobby Ott in th e fir st bend and went down and ou t. By this tim e it was obvious th at the show was Fa ria who bega n a t th e 60. He was stormi ng through th e pack and blasted by Joh nson a t th e end of th e first lap. He th en raced by Swea ney as they exi ted tu rn two th e seco nd , tim e aro u nd. Faria th en had to hunt down Correy. It took hi m two laps to mak e up th e d istance but he sho t by Co rrey in a blur, o n la p four. Faria th en gassed it all th e way to the checkered flag. J im Sisemore topped a grea t Scra tch race . Just before ra ce time Yarrow and Dave Faria ca me out befor e th e crowd and shook hands in a ges tu re of good will as Faria will take over thenumber one pl ate for next year. In th e H andi cap heat s, th e guys at th e back were makin g th e tran sfer, with Pat Linn jus t in front o f Steve Crawford in heat on e wh ile Dave Far ia a nd Scott Brant got second heat transfers. Then in his Scratch heat , Faria ca me up with bik e problems a nd pulled out for th e rest o f th e night. . Yarrow a nd th e Snooky Owens Weslak e looked in peak form, winning his heat in front o f Crawford a nd th en downing Sisemore in th e semi. Pat Linn handil y defeated Steve Martin in th e o ther Scratch sem i. Out o f th e gate it was Sisemore and Yarro w, who rod e a high lin e for two laps but Sisemore's VacAero-Ma ely had everyth ing go ing just right. Yarro w slip ped wideon th e thi rd lap a nd Steve Martin took o ver second a t th e che ckered. J eff Brown looked good for three la ps in the Handicap show with Scott Brant in seco nd, followed by J ohn H ouston a nd Kid Curry. But a long co mes Yarro w a nd H ouston moved up th en co lli ded wi th Brant a nd ca used a pile up wh ich brought o u t th e red flag; H ouston was di squalified. T he restart saw Brown o u t front agai n . but Yarrow was on th e gas, usin g o u tside lines to pass Curry, Dave Co x a nd finally former Junior Spe edway cha m p Brown to win the first point round o f th e new season. Orla ndi held a clear lead that he retai ned to the checkered flag. Fari a ended hi s ni ght seco nd in the Scra tch main , but mor e importantl y, number o ne in th e NorCa I poi nts race, which ended to n igh t. Yarrow was third and Delacy fourth. In the Hand icap main even t, it was Volk and Mark Dragony lead in g the fir st lap. Tom Ferri s, charg ing hard on the in side, cont in ua lly forced Volk 10 th e o u tside . Volk held o n to fir st, but Ferris never let him forg et he was th ere. On the last turn , Ferris tried h im on the outside, but it was too little, too la te as Volk won by in ch es. Ferris was second, with Bart Bast th ird . In th e Division T wo ma in , Ch arli e H aines had the ea rly lead, but in th e th ird lap, Jeff Holmes got past o n th e outside, tak ing th e Div ision Two win by less than a tire. H aines held o n for second, Dana Perri was th ird. It was first pl ace a ll th e way for J im H arris in the Division Three main , who rode under constant pressure from Scott McN eil and N ick Geranio. . Bobb y Hedden got past Eri c Ch ambers in the third lap o f the Jun ior ma in a nd went o n to win hi s fourth Au burn main event o f th e 1985 SC3son.
