Bu chl i holeshot th e m ain ahead o f Berry McCoy, Stork, Flesia a nd DeHoff. Buchli held o ff Berry for five laps while th e two were well ahead o f a six bike bat tle for third. On lap six, Berry scoo ted past Buchli and began pulling away. He appeared to be long go n e, but just before the white flag he dumped it in the whoops allowing Buchli to co me home with th e victory. McCoy, who had held third the entire rnoto , came in second ah ead of Stork, Cook. DeHoff and Berry . Flesia , who had run fourth most of the way, made a desperation move on McCoy just before th e finish and crashed. remounting eighth. T he event was once again sponsored by th e CZ Owners C lu b and presented by SM X racing. Two philosophies of old-bike raeing were evid~nt with a q u ick walk through th e pHS. One concept was to heavilv modify old equipment to morecioselv resemble rod ays machine while the other more prevalent 'idea was to restore the motorcycle 10 its origina l form . Man y riders who embraced the seco nd concept a lso wore riding gear that brou~h! bac k fond . memories of the late SIX lies. Bobby Toombs beat Steve P arish an d Marc Depetris in the A division. a nd Michael Huddleston and Steve Barton battled it out in th e B di vis ion followed by Madd Max Racing T eam's Johnny Zipper and Greg Foster. Cooper n eeded to beat Hodgin to win the class high point award , but seemed to have an off-night. Hodgin won his heat, but couldn't repeat in the main and luckily. he didn't need to . Francis Shine and Norman Storr continued their assault on the 500cc Novices by fin ishing one-two. In the 25OccJunior race . soon to be Expert, Kelly Fischer returned to winning form and aced Delhi's Dion Clardy for the 250cc class award. Vets' action featured a second season win by Antioch, California's Roy Fisher. Other Experts John Taylor and Terry Graham finished second and third.
