Faria, Ott again in Costa Mesa By Scott Da loisio COSTA MESA, CA, AUG. 9 " Flyi n ' " Mike Faria is currently go ing thro ugh the hottest streak that any rider on the southern California circuit has put together th us far in 1985. O n Friday night at the Orange County Fair- . grounds Faria added to the streak by taking the Scratch main event for his 10th main event victory in the last II days. The previous week Faria topped bo th mains at Co sta Mesa but this week he was forced to settle for j ust the Scratch side of the affair. He got the gate from th e pole and p u t the Shoei / T orco/ Oakley/Trak Master Tires /Tsu bak iiScotty's Muffler/ STP /Kal-Gard /Wacy Armstrong Weslake into the point posi tion ahead o f Sam Errnolenko, J ohn Sandon a and R o bert P fetzin g . Ermolenko forged past Faria for th e lead on the back chute and he ld him off until they came off turn two on the second lap. Faria then ass erted himself and used a good drive to get into the lead. Ermolenko tried in vain to catch Faria on lap three and th en on the final lap he was fo rced to bl ock John Sandona as they came ou t of tu rn two to protect his second-plac e spo t. At the line it was Faria ch ased by Errnolenko, Sandona and Pfetzing. For the seco nd even in g in a row "Showtime" Bobby Ott preceeded Faria 's Scrat ch win with a victory in th e H andicap ma in event. Th e race wa s red-flagg on th e o rig ina l go whe n T on y Bri ggs ta gged the tu rn four wall an d was sha ken . Briggs was exc luded from the rest art. Ed Castro and Ermolen ko ga ve ea rly chase to Ott (Cycle T ech / Ara i/ Jones Goggl es G odd en ) with Lucero taking Ermolen ko for third o n lap two. On th e third revo lu tion bo th Lucero and Ermol enko slid past Ca stro a nd se t o ff for Ot t. They bo th closed th e ga p but tim e ran o ut wi th O tt sti ll two len g th s to th e fro nt. Guy Waterso n (Weslake) dom in at ed the action in Seco nd Division by wi nn ing bo th h is h ea t and th e mai n event. Shane H awley gave chase in t'l McCasland .,
