At the sta rt of th e seco nd rno to, P ierce ju mped into th e lead , with Belch er seco nd, and trying to make up ground. Reyn ol ds wa s roosting a lo ng in ' th ird w hen he sudden ly p ulled off with a sore back . Coming a ro und a tigh t left Ll-rurn, Belcher slid o u t givi ng a lot of ground up to Pi erce, who wa s o ut fro nt and flyin g. Ne ver one to give up , Belch er started a charge th a t had h im q uickl y catch ing u p to P ier ce, o n ly to fall in ano th er corn er. Pi erce kep t hi s same p ace, bu t thr ee co rners before th e finish , hi s bik e sudde n ly slowed 10 a craw l, ap p arently o u t o f gas. Belch er breezed by for th e win , gi ving him first overall. Ma ico rider David Pik er wo n th e Over T he Hill G an g Novice-race by winning both h is mot as in a co n vincing manner.
