In th e first mot o , Ownbey an d Honda r ider Er ic H enley bo th drag raced away from th e pack, pulling away 10 race eac h o ther by the end o f the first lap. Frank lin wo n th e- firs t mot o p u lli ng a way. but in th e second moto, Sparks lea ped into the lead and it looked lik e he was goi ng 10 p u ll a n upset, bu t he sudden ly spu n his H on da ou t in a fast sweeper. Com ing o ut o f a sharp corner, Knott hit th e gas a lill ie ea rlier and repassed for th e lead . A few laps into the race, Kn ott had pulled away some w hen Hunter stuck h is foot in to a trackside ti re that left him ta ngled u p for a few seco nds . A lap la ter, Knott had .to slow down when traffic held h im up. Hunter saw this, and no w riding with m ore abandon, caugh t back up, bu t th e smoo ther ridi ng Knott kept his usual lines a nd h el d o ff Hunter 10 the finish . Kwol ek en ded up with a th ird . . Come the secon d race Kwol ek a nd H u nt er immediately went a t each others th ro a ts with Fresno's Robbie T ol er (Yam) third. At the end of the first lap, Hunter slid by Kwo lek o n.a fas t sweeper. A few corners la ter, however, Hunter got tangl ed up with a fa llen rider, a nd again Kwo lek was in the lead. By mid-race, H unter had ag ain ca ught up to Kwolek and started an attack fro m behi nd . A few feet before a jump in th e bac k sectio n , Hunter made hi s move on Kwo lek. Comi ng across the fin ish , Hunter had th e lead, wi th Kwol ek hot o n h is rear wheel for second . Toler followed in for a third.
