Bentley go t th e holesh ot in the main event , fol lowed by Jolly a nd Kaufman , but went high in turn four and Jolly went inside 10 tak e th e lead he main- tained to the checkered £lag. Kaufman is not used to trai ling and moved up 10 work on Bent ley, but as they cros sed th e fin ish line Bentley held th e advan tage by a wheel. Alan Powers put hi s new Powers Raci ng -spo nsored Honda into th e lead in th e Open Amat eu r TT heat race and showed Kirk T yer the way a ro u nd th e track. Powers go t th e hol eshot in the main event, but lost hi s adva ntage wh en Ben Co Hma n passed h im on th e ins ide goi ng into th e in field. Springman grabbed the ho leshot ahead of Bob Nei tfie1d's Kawasaki and R o ben Cole 's Yamaha while th e current points leader Bren t Melvin circu lated in fourth. The lineup changed o n lap six with Melvin gett ing by Cole while the usually front running Larry Visco was having p roblems back in the pack. The steady riding of Springman , however. kept th e others at ba y as he led Neitfield and Melvin across the line, In th e 250cc B rnoto, Norm Enders sho t hi s KTM into th e lead wh en th e gate fell a nd instantl y opened up a lead befor e hi s chain derailed . J ohn All en power ed hi s Honda into th e lead with Bria n Moelker moving into seco nd place. Adrian Moelker came o u t o f the pack to take over third to wind o u t th e Honda par ad e. Roskell ey started the series in th e 250cc class but a fter problems in th e firs t IWO ro u nds decid ed 10 drop out a nd co ncentra te o n th e 125 a nd 500s. However, a crash put Roskelley in mid pack lea ving Davis a nd MacDonald o u t front . Davis passed a ti ri ng MacDonald 10 lake first. Roskelley managed a sixth p lace fini sh. MOIO two found Davis in the lead wi th Roskelley a nd Mac Do nald in seco nd and th ird. By the haI£way mark MacDonald started to fade whi le Roskell ey pu t the pressure on Davis. T he two have a fierce riva lry in Alaska a nd showed it on the track as they banged bars in ever y corner. Roskelley got by Davis, bu t immediately went down taking Davis with him. Roskell ey q ui ckly remounted minus silencer, rear fender and a few other parts and held onto first . MacDona ld passed Da vis while he was resta rt ing and followed Roskelley in for seco nd and th e da y's overall win . Davis finished third for the rnoto a nd second overall ahead of Roskelley, Sunday's 500cc Expert class had Ro skelley in fir st until a broken rear shock StTU I left him with a DNF. Dav is went to th e win with Mac Do nald in second. The seco nd moto found Roskelley out front again a nd th is time he held it tog ether to tak e first, but Davis won th e overall by fini shing the rnoto in second. As o n day o ne , Munson a nd Davis traded wins in th e 250cc Expert class, bu t this tim e Davis won th e overall. Munson had a bad cras h in th e first 125cc Expert mo to, bu t still managed a fourth . Roskelley won it over Good. Munson stayed up the entire second moto but it was Roskell ey again .
