Wit h II pre-1965 class one an d two mach in es o f three different displaceme nts on th e grid, ho pes were high for gaini ng needed poi nts but as ra cing go es n o th in g is for sure. T h e Hap Jones West Coast Britis h 250 Ducat i of Mike Green again p ulled th e h o leshot, bu t by tu rn one Wa lden on hi s Tri umph and T om Ri enecker on th e Wheel Works 500 BSA Gold Star had passed . Righ t from the start Mich ael Moore's luck was bad as he sta lled hi s engi ne and wa s un ab le to resta rt. He became the first casua lty of th e day. During th e opening lap, Bud R idd le on the Avon Tires/Hap J o nes/ WCB 350 Du ca ti came from th e last row to take third overa ll aw ay fro m Green in tur n four.
