Berry a ttem p ted to jump around the crash, but was taken out in mid-air by th e flyin g H on da s, an d both Stork an d Fr iend ro lled by into first and seco nd. Berr y remo unted a nd cha rged aft er th e leaders, bu t time ran o u t befor e he co ul d regain th e lead. Stork took hi s Budw eiser / Rice Cycles H onda across for th e win while Fri end put hi s Spea rfish Yam aha into seco nd ahead of Berr y. Behind, Todd Willis an d Mark Mu ell er had a terrific battle for fo urth , wi th Willis grabbing th e posit ion after Mu ell er cra shed. Ro u nd two saw Berry aga in tak e the holesh ot with Friend seco nd, but in the second corner Frie nd motored around Berry and into th e lead. Berry stayed right with th e Yamaha pilot for the first half of th e moto, th en went by on a large set o f doubles o n the backstraight that he but n ot Friend was clearing. Berr y went fro m th ere to tak e th e win a head o f Fr ien d , and th e duo finished o ne -two in the overall s as well. Stor k, with a tender knee from a n earli er fall, trailed in third ahead of Mu eller a n d Willis, and that trio rounded o u t th e top five overall in that sa me order. In the first 250cc Pro mot a , Berr y and Stork continued th eir battle, heading Greg H yde, T on y Ulrich and Ra n da ll a ro u n d for the ope n in g laps. The battle was short-lived, however , as on th e seco nd lap Stork popped his right kn ee ou t o f its socket landing off th e long do u blej u m p o n th e backstra ight. T his a llo wed Berr ry to molar off wit h the win, wh ile H yde tu rn ed in his best ride as a Pro wi th a so lid seco nd. Molder sta rted off the mot a in the back of the pack, wo rked his way to th e fro nt only to crash and have to do it a ll over agai n, and finall y set tled into thi rd la te in th e mota after slippin g past Ulrich and Ra ndal l. Round twoof the 250s found Molder gett ing a much better start and head ing o ut to do ba ili e wi th Berr y rig ht from th e begi n ni ng. Mo lder worked himself into the lead, bu t Berr y stayed right with him a n d the two swapped th e spot a few times before the checkered flew . In th e en d Molder slip ped back underneath Berry to tak e th e lead fo r good with on ly a few laps remai ning, and went in for th e mota , win as Berry took seco nd, Hyde third, Dave Zurh fourth a nd Kevin Forrester fifth . Overall , however, th e order was Berr y, Molder , Hyde, Zuhr and Randall making up the top five spots. O pe n Pro action saw Molder come back to his usual form and lea d the first mota through the corner as Lynn Hyde, Keith Eh nes, T im Cleveringa and Stork followed. Stork worked hi s way up to third q u ickly, but with the tender knee was not up to clearing the doubles, and H yde used th em to fend off Stork each lap. Out front, Mo lder motored off to a co mforta ble lead and went untouched, while H yde found Stork relentless despite th e bad leg. On the fina l lap Molder came in for the win, and H yde had secon d j ust about wrapped up wh en he blew th e comer after th e doubles, and Stork dove underneath a nd into seco nd. Hyde had to sett le for a dejected th ird ahead of Eh nes an d Cleveringa, Ro u nd two saw Stork tak e the h olesho t with Molder an d Hyde righ t behi nd and Stork managed to h o ld Molder off th e opening lap , but kn ew the do ub les would tell the story. O n the next lap, Molder cl eared the jumps, sailed into the lead as Stork went o ver them o ne at a time. H yde then pulled up to cha llenge Stork, and Stork began to fear losing seco nd overa ll, and, bad leg and a ll, went after the doubles once more. Ginger ly, he cleared th em , and n ot on ly shook off H yde but reeled in Molder to make a ra ce out of th e fin a l moto. Stork tried to get by Molder right down to th e wire, but Molder was too tough a nd wen t in with a no the r mot a win , wh ich ga ve h im th e overa ll vict ory. Stork's second ga ve hi m second overa ll to H yde's third place ride, wh ile Cleveringa bested Ehnes in th is ro u nd fo r fourth in both th e mot a a n d overa lls. Results OPEN A : 1.
