JULY 7 T emperatures in the 1000 Frange kept lap limes high and competitors sli ding on 1300 asphalt at Willow Springs for 32 a n ARRA road ra ce. In the combin ed 750cc and Open Super street class Kenny Kopeck y and his GPz900R N inja took th e holeshot and held it 10 turn eight where J eff Stern (Suz) passed for th e lea d ; Stern went on to win a full stra ig h taway ahead. Terry Statum fini shed th ird overall on his 600cc Superstreet bike entered as a 750, far a head of th e remaining field. The 600cc Superstree t event was Statum 's al l the wa y. Ea rl Ro lo ff had fit his GPz600R Ninja with IS-inch wheel s front a nd rear an d batt led with David Morris for seco nd pl ace until lap two when Ro lo ff to ok th e lead in turn nine. Mooris stuck close for th e entire race but wa s u nable 10 regain seco nd place. Albee shook o ff Taylor 10 win by a sma ll margin , Husqvarna 5 l 0-mo unted J im Servo d id a grea t job o f hold in g o ff fell ow hea t wi n ner Ji m Dunken to wi n th e Novice T roph y Da sh. Servo was. however. booed by the 1500 spectators when h e merely gave the trophy girl a h ug. while Jun io r winner Albee a nd Expert w in ner Fay d id much hetter. J ULY 7 Joey Schlag and Tyson Vohland came away the big win ners in the Sand Hi lt Su m me r Series O pen er al Bren twood. Schlag wo n the Open class an d Vohla nd ca me away wit h th e double in the 125 a nd 250cc class. It wa s L arr y D a s h ie l , how ev er, taki ng th e ea rly lea d in the O p en class, but Sch lag wa sn 't far behind . Schlag passed Dashiel in th e w hoops an d h eld th e lead to th e fi n ish . The second rn oto was a repeat o f th e fir st with th e Contra Costa H onda p ilo t taking th e o vera ll. Ret u r n i n g a fte r severa l su rgeries from a previous fall a nd rid ing with a steel rod in h is leg . Kim o Casey too k th e hol eshot in th e 125cc P ro class. Vo h la n d qu ickl y got by o n th e fir st lap a n d ma inta ined a huge lead to th e finish with Mik e Reimers taking seco nd and Casey third. Reimers holeshot the second m oto with Kimo and Vo h la nd in lO W. but once again Vohland ro ok co m ma n d. Kimo threw away a solid second place when he cras he d in a mudho le a n d Reim ers regained second place.
