Chasing Manley 10 the checkered flag in both rnotos was another Honda rider Mike Wa tson , while Yamaha rider Mike Carlo p lace third overall. Mike Kell rode his Ka wasak i to th e ' top placing in th e I25cc Pro class. Kell moved 10 the front early in both rounds as Yamaha rider Joe Tuttobene and Kawasaki-mounted Ro bert Noli n battled [or the runner-up spot. The two riders traded moto p laces with Tuttobene claiming seco nd overa ll and Nol in having to sett le [or th ird. In th e 250cc Int ermediate class, Yamaha rider Gary Scheidler bested th e Iield in th e first mot o, 'too k third in the second a nd cap tu red th e overall. Loren Pochirowski (H o n ) took second ahead of Suzuki rider Matt Kresser. Honda-mounted Kinn ey Jones blew away the Vet Expert class after winning both motos, Ken Ehlers and hi s Yam aha kept the pressure o n Jones in both motos but had 10 sett le [or second. Haaker stomps Big Boot By Scott Taggart EUREKA, CA, MAY 26 J ohn H aaker piloted hi s Husky Four-Stroke to overall ho nors at Far West M.C.'s Big Boot end uro. Haak er' s 19 point sco re p rovided pl enty o f margin over second overall a nd · first Open A fini sh er George Hendrix who turned in a 25 point score. Don Hoagl and a n d his 200 cc Yamaha were on the main jet tod ay. Hoagland finis hed first 200cc A, third overall with 27 points. Jeff Church's 28 points netted him second behind Hoagland, a nd put him 'o ne point ah ead of Jeff Naff in third 200cc A. Steve Shoemaker gassed his 250cc to a 28 point, first 250cc A win, Iollowed by Scott Reyno ld s in second and Mit ch Le nz III third.' Seco nd and third place Open A trophies were claimed by Scott Taggart and Ros s Liberty with 28 and 30 point scores, respectively. John Poor thumped second place Bob Holmes and third place Da ve Crowell in the FourStroke A class. Tom Jepson narrow ly too k the first Vet A slot to bea t Bill Dart in second and Cliff Glidden in third p lace. Jepson and Da rt both dropped 32 points, whi le G lidd en lost 33. The top three .Senior A's turned in impress ive scores, with Ra nd y Carles' 25 points leading the pack, fo llowed by J err y Kramer with 30 and Chuck Cris t with 40 points. Ph ill ip Frisbee was th e first o f on ly two finis hers in the Super-Senior A class, with Bob , Sangalli taking second. Pa u l Wilson devasta ted the B class with his 30 poin t score to take Overa ll B. Wilson's next closest competitor in the Sportsman 's class turned in a 50 point score. Cliff McBride, despite breaking his 'rig h t th umb 20 miles from th e finis h, rode [or the first Open B win, [01lowed by Pau l Stah l and Gary Mat hews. Only two 250cc B's were a ble to make the grade today. Jeff Jones finished first and Larry Gorman too k seco nd in that class. Bru ce Rust rode to a second Overall B, first 200cc B finish. Wi lson walloped the Open Expert main event with Lance Strong winning the 250cc. H eal races ran smoothly for many rid ers su ch as Strong and 125cc A rider Danny Stanley. For some, things d idn't go so well - suc h is th e case of Oregon's J ack " Bugsy" Booth. Booth made th e drive up from Eastern Oregon, bringing one fast 500cc H arley- . Davidson with him only to be ta ken o u t o f preliminaries when a fellow Open Expert contestant [ell a nd left Booth with no wh ere to go but in the p ileup. Booth th en went back to Oregon with injuires, Second year Expert Wi lson brought out his shiny new Rotax 560, bought yesterday at Sidewinders and set fast time with a 17.02. T he 250cc Expert ma in saw Strong (Sea ttle H on ) tak e th e lead in wh at was h is fir st race in so me tim e o n th e first la p . Strong enjoyed a lead in th e race, mu ch thanks 10 former Nationa l number ho lder and brother Kirk , who wasn 't ridin g. Kirk has domi nat ed on th e local level since losing his national number 59, but tonight left it up to yo u nger brother Lance to uphold th e family win streak. Strong's win didn 't come without pressure, AMA Junior Ra nd y Roose (BBR P Ra cing /Sound Advice /Yamaha Northwest) carved through traffic to fini sh seco nd behind Strong at th e co m pletio n. Once past Albee, it was clear sailing for Wi lson, who has now won two of three Open main events since the sta rt ,of the season. Drake CAMP WOO D, AZ, MAY 26 Husky pilot Garth Sweetland dominated the Experts at the Arizona Desert Racing Associ a tion's eighth an n ual Prescott Mountain 100 racking up his third overall and Open Expert win in the . 1985 ADRA Desert Championship Series . The Desert Husqvarna /Uptite H usqvarna /Sweet la nd Concre te/ Roger H ickey sponsored rider turned in a time of 3:39:41 for 105 miles to put him in over seven minutes ahead of 250cc Expert winner and seco nd overall Jeff Darland (H on ). Starting 15th 250cc wi n ner Darla nd had hi s hands fu ll with the traffie but was moving up fast by the second lap. The 250cc bikes fill th e top five finish ers. ADRA number one plateho lder Mark Hildebrand (Hus ) was third overall with Mike Po wers (Hon) fourth and Paul Bennett (KTM) fifth .
