In the 250cc Intermed ia te class firs t moto it looked lik e David Minj ar es (Ha n ) a nd Mann y Ornellas (Han ) were going to be th e two to fight down to th e wire. Ornell as fell o ff [he pace wh ile Minj ar es just pl ain fell o ff! Great est will to win was sti ll preval ent in J on Kin g (Hon ) as he carri ed past Ornel las to win. In the seco nd mot a . Ph il Douglas (Han) and Cory Perreault (Suz) set th e ea rly pa ce aft er ro cket in g off th e line. Perreault ha s several times tak en this class and tried hard to aven ge h is poor first mota performance. He did hang on for seco n d as repeated attempts to dislodge Douglas from th e lead failed. What neither Douglas nor Perrea u lt counted on was the reserve strength and desire in the form of Jon King. King beg an to repeat his attack on th e course, just as he had in th e I25cc class. Alt hough it didn 't bring his to th e point o f passing Perrea ult 's Suzuki, it did a llow him a third in th e mota and a combi ned first overall. It was a popular victory. Results 50 PEEWEE: 1. Doin g cross- ups o ver th e ju mps, Jorge nson w a ~ un touch able a n d pulled a way from hard-ridin g Melv in and th e rest of the pack. Lar ry Visco (Ka w) was third , and closi ng in was Rueben Springman (Suz) in fourth . Melvin wa s riding on th e hairy edge trying to sta y with J orgen son but kept losing ground, whil e Springm an got aro un d Visco to gai n th ird place. But Springm an was unabl e to ca tch Melvin. Jorgenson set th e fast time of the night, covering th e track in two minutes a nd 28 seco nds . At th e finish, it was Jorgen son , Melvin a n d Springman. The 125cc A class started with a clea n holes hot by Brad Kesselring (H a n ), then Larry Visco (Kaw ) moved into the lead before th e comp leti on o f th e fir st lap. Charlie Charhon (Han) mov ed into third and Steve Fri sen (Ha n) wa s fourth . Visco set a blistering pa ce as Kesselring tried to keep within striking distance. Behind th em, though, was a batt le for third in progress. Da rell Martens (Kaw ), moved up to th ird in o ne sweep, pas si ng Charhan and Fr isen, w h ile Mike McC lement (Yam ) took ove r fourth . Visco maintained a go od lead. wi th Kesselring second, a n d a ch argin g McC lement passed Martens on the last lap to finish th ird. Orr a nd H ern don both pa ssed Dyson , o ne o n each side of hi m , with Orr leading int o turn three. Mey er managed to hold th e edge over LeBleu to fini sh second. whi le Scott Brid ges took fourth ahea d o f McCracken. Bobby Shaw put a new CR250 ou t of Honda Town on th e sh ort track for a narrow win ahead o f Trace Polson in the first 250cc heat race, then Meyer held off Hale for the win in th e second heat. Pol so n and Alan Powers bot h drew pena lties for th ird row starts in the main event. Shaw got th e hol eshot, followed bv Rockv Fivecoa t, Meyer a nd Ha le. On lap two, Polson got around Ha le, then th e next time a ro un d, went in sid e Meyer in turn two to tak e over third place. On lap four , Powers went around Meyer 161' fo urth a nd Polson passed Fivecoa t with a good d rive on th e o u tside co m ing o u t of turn four. Pow ers ra uglu Fivecoat , but co u ld not get aro u nd him and Fivecoat took th e chec kers in th ird p lace. Sha w took the win well ahead o f seco ndp lace Pol son. But th e main event wa s all Alan Pow ers, as h e took over the lead from Cl ay on th e back stretch o n lap one. Jon Bu ya s (T own Center Kawasaki) took a well-deserved win tonight over th e 125cc Pro class with a double rnor o sweep, Buyas did n ot tak e the wins th e easy way though . as he was forced to battle Grayson Hart (ProCaliber KTM / Sun Products ), Jere Meeker (Coun tr y Yamaha / Kawasaki/ Mi ller) Beaverton Honda 's Kurt Rogstad and the return o f once feared Mini star Jack McG ill (Kaw) . Ha rt took the runnerup po sition in the first moto afte r so me heavy dicing wi th Rogst ad , who ca rded a third.
