Orr AR DMORE, OK, FEB. 23 There was super racing in all classes, bu t the big bikes o n the indoor track at Hardy-Murphy Coliseum in Ardmore, O klahoma provided th e most excitemen t each time out. H ud Welding 's j ames Huddl eston won th e Open Amat eur £lat tra ck heat ahead of Fred Debrick , G eorge Galdeen a nd Karl Klem ent. Debrick came back stro ng for th e main, putting th e team' Pa cesett er Honda into turn one ahead of th e field. Huddleston went to th e in side com in g o u t o f turn Iour on lap two to g a in th e lead, but it wa s br ief as Debrick recaptured th e lead with th e sa me move on th e n ext lap. The two rod e h andleb ar-tohandlebar Ior three more laps. Debrick lea ned a little too far to th e inside on th e la st lap and was saved from go ing down only by making co n tac t 'w ith Huddleston. Both riders recovered, with Debrick making it to th e flag in ches ah ead of Hudd leston . Debri ck sa id later "I sure was glad he was there. " Open Pro flat tra ck h eat s were won by Bill H erndon ahead o f T ed Boody and j eHrey Sh elt on in heat one, and Bill y " Bu ll" H aynie winning over Charlie Orr a nd David Fish er in th e seco nd h eat. Orr passed H a yn ie on th e o u tside o f turn two ill' th e seco nd lap, th en inherited seco nd as Herndon slid down in turn four. Boody had the win locked in as O rr a nd H ayni e tried to pl ay ca tch -u p , Team Pa cesett er's H erndon ca m e back in th e P ro main looking for payda y as he dove into th e first co rn er a hea d o f Boody. Orr a nd Sh elt on. R id in g th e o utside o f th e tra ck, Orr passed Bood y before th e en d o f lap one. and H aynie recovered from a bad start to move through th e pa ck into fourth p lace. On lap seven, Bood y got inside Orr in turn four to tak e over second. Orr co nt in ued to tak e the outside line. a nd Hayni e got in side o f him in the number two corner on lap 10 for third pl a ce. Herndon held off Boody's cha lle nge the last two laps for the win , with Boody taking seco nd p lace and Hay- . . nil' in third ahead of Orr. Arriving la te, Orr missed practi ce, but took the lead in the first co rner of Orr missed practice. but took th e lead in th e fir st co rner of heat one of th e Open Pro TT, and had Boody on h is heels a ll th e way to th e ch eckers. After fa lling coming o ut of the infield o n la p one of the second heat, Brad Taylor restarted his machin e and made a hard ch arge to catch up, pa ssing other riders to get back int o th e race for th e lead. H is charge gained him second p lace. Herndon led th e wireto-wire for th e win. H erndon was first to turn o ne in th e Open Pro main event a hea d o f Taylo r, Boody a nd Orr. Tay lor took over the lead o n the righ t-hand tu rn . leaving H erndon to baili e wit h Boody o ver seco nd pl ace. O rr 's m ot or qu it o n th e th ird la p . a nd the th ree lead ers mov ed a way from th e pa ck. As H ern don pressu red Tay lor for th e lead, Boody pr essured H ern don for seco nd. O n lap 10, H erndon wen t wide o n th e rig h t-ha nd turn an d Bood v wen t inside to tak e over seco nd p lace, bu t co u ldn ' t ca p tu re th e lead .
