T hey finish ed in tha t order . with Perez tak in g thi rd a nd th e Novice win a hea d of Deckert . Bu ssey gra bbed th e hol esho t in th e seco n d mota but wa s push ed o u tside a nd went o ver th e large berm. Deckert wa s there to ta ke over, as Nov ices Dan H umbach (Kaw) and Mik e Alli son (R&D S uz) held back McCa y. All ison went down o n th e' first lap. a n d McCa y wa s th ere to put th e h eat on Humbach . For o ver h alf the race, th ese three kept one a nother in sig h t. wh ile Perez held down fourth a way s back . McCay kep t th e pr essure on Humbach , but on la p five. h e went down trying to pa ss a Beginner. H e got up in time to retain third , th en , o n th e last lap, Humbach went d own a nd McCa y took secon d. Deckert wa s go ne o n hi s wa y to th e w in a n d No vice overa ll , so McCa y had to settle for seco n d but sti ll took th e Intermediate overa ll. Perez a lso went by Humbach to tak e th ird in the mo to a n d secon d o vera ll in hi s class, and Hum bach go t up in tim e to hold o n to th ird o vera ll in the Novice cla ss. T he 250cc Int ermed iate class win went to Ala n Pierce (Kaw ). who flew to a I-I overa ll win; Rick Grant was second . As u su al, th e l 25cc Beginn er class was one o f th e biggest. Yamagu chi ap pa rently decid ed to avoid the crowd a nd parlayed th e holeshot into a going a way win. The action was back in seco nd. Aaron Wood a nd Michael Lucas fough t over th at spot unt il lap three wh en Lu cas mad e a ni ce jump pass for seco n d. Then, befor e the lap was o ver, Mik e Fi nc h had tak en it away fro m hi m . At the en d o f mota o ne, it was Ya magu ch i. Fin ch , an d L ucas. In mot o two . Brad Beam an smoked o ff th e sta rt lin e righ t to th e mota win. Agai n th e fight was over se~ n d but th is tim e Lucas a nd Fi nch had to co ntend with Yamaguchi. T om H olt ca me from back in th e pack, pi cking o ff at least one rider per lap . in clud ing Wert a nd Davenport. On lap five, Col e di sappeared a nd fin all y showed up in last , barely moving. Holt cruised in for th e rno to wi n. followed by Wert an d Davenport. In mot o two , H olt took a n immed iate lead a n d d id not relinq uis h it. Todd H ayes an d Col e were right beh ind h im for a sho rt whil e bu t both DNF and Wert took over seco nd . Er ic Clausen worked hi s way up and passed Wert in th e last pa rt o f th e race. H olt had th e best co m bi ned score, with Wert seco nd a nd Clausen third overa ll. Pi erce kicked everyo ne's rea r kn obbie s in th e 250cc Intermediates, run ning away with both motos for an easy o vera ll victory.
