The second round saw Sauro shutdown Reed and Anderson over Bolton. The final round had Anderson vs. Sauro. The run was going to be close, because both riders had been running a string of 8. 7s all weekend. Both cut an 8.80 - Sauro at 148.75, Anderson a 150.25. Anderson took home the trophy as Sauro red lighted. Pro Cqmp first round Kevin Murphy put Rickey Ross on the trailer with an 8.58/154. I The biggest and best race to date at Benton County Fairgrounds in Corvallis had Yamaha-mounted Marty McDaniel top a crash-plagued BOcc A main event on his water-cooled YZSO using a rampant pace to beat Mall Zirbel (Yam) and Marty Lewis (Hon). Novice-Pro Marty Zirbel won a thrilling 250cc Pro main. Zirbel motored away wi th the 250cc and Open Pro's five-lap preliminaries in qualifying beating rival Ryan Fisher to enjoy the pole positions in both outings. Zirbel'~ next task was topping the matching trophy dashes on his Kinishl Adams Cycle/Town Center Yam/Chaney's Auto Yamahas, winning the 250cc dash over Fisher and Expert Ron Adams (Bul). The Open Pro three-lap-dash victory didn't come as easy for the Novice sensation, as Fisher grabbed the holeshot only to be passed by another hot Junior Pro, Mike Huffman (Yam). Huf£man led until the final turn when Fisher made a drive to get around and sent both down giving jubilant Zirbel a finish line win for his sweep of the Pro trophy dashes. Fisher watched from the distance at the start of the 250cc Pro main event, while Zirbel quickly opened up a good sized lead in the 2O-lap main event. Adams, Junior Veri Smith (Bul) and Pat Munyon - also on an Astro - held down top five positions midway through the main and could get no closer, as Zirbel put a huge deficit on the field for top payoff over Fisher, Adams and Smith.
