a tug-of-war. Word apPeared in the lead to make it Word, Harsha and Croucher at the end of the race. Devin Madison (Hon) launched his CR480 into an uncontested lead in the Open A final. AMA junior flat track Pro Bob Ingel jr(Hon 480) uses MX to stay in shape during the off season, and made things miserable for Madison. He rode well ahead of Croucher (Suz 250), Harsha (Hon 250) and Ingel (Hon 480) to nab the top cash payof£. Harsha put on a charge to catch Word, but took a detour and dropped to third at the finish. '- Phoenix International Raceway for solid performances this race, while another regular, jeff Anderson. borrowed two bikes and stayed close to the leaders for slrong second-place finishes in Open Superslreet and Formula I sprints. Adams rode an outof-the-crate 500 Interceptor from Sparks Cycle Supply and Bud's Out Back from the back of the grid (because of the bike's small displacement) into the lead by lap two of the Production Stock event, and on lap 15 took the checkers a distance ahead of a hurting Kevin Elliott who hasn't quite recovered from last month's crash. Sponsored by Motorcycle & Marine, Nava and Lancer Leathers, Elliott's performance on the 750 Turbo Kawasaki was good enough for the Stock Production A win. Right behind Elliott at the nag was GPZ550 rider Ed ''Red'' Wright (Kawasaki of Phoenix and Viper Racing), who swapped thenumberonePRRO bad luck plate for hi old number 31. The Quick Red One wa in Adams' category, so his third overall was only good for a second in Stock Production C. Craig Martin (Cave Radiator and Team Razor) who dominated last month's PRRO racing at Firebird on a 500 Interceptor, had to settle for third in Stock Production C after edging out Tom Krause (TNT Total Performance Engineering, Thumper Bosley & Otto) by half a spoke. Running with the leaders, Dave Wright from County Cycle won Stock Production B on a 750 Interceptor; and Tom Dahl from TNT and Motorcycle & Marine hooked up for a win in Stock Production D with a 400 Yamaha four-stroke twin. For the Superstreet event, jeH Ander on borrowed Ellioll's 750 Turbo; Wing fired up his hot Ninja from Motorcycle & Marine, Nava and Wing Racing; and Adams was back with the stock 500 Interceptor, Wing moved into a comfortable lead by mid-race followed in hot pursuit by Adams, then Andf'r~on and Chuck Crawford on a 550 Yamaha from Performance Consultants, Accessories and Cycles, Spectro Chemical Labs and Bennis Racing, Behind Crawford was Craig Martin. running in third place Stock Production C. Rick Witte. on a 400 Honda Hawk, stayed close for the Superstreet D win. and Paul Deaton was first in Superstreet B with a 750 Honda, Wing and the Ninja dominated the Formula I sprint, starting in the first row of the grid and opening up more than a long straightaway lead by lap 15.In hotter competition were Adams on the same Interceptor. Martin ridingan Fj600 Yamaha £rom Kingman Cycle Works and Anderson piloting a IOOOR Kawasaki that he borrowed from Charles and Cynthia Harris (actually it's Cynthia's bike). Zirbel, Fishers fast at Corvallis ST By Clay light CORVALLIS, OR, NOV. 3 AMA Pros dominated the Corvallis indoor short track season opener at Benton County Fairgrounds. Both Zirbel and Fisher dominated the Pro heat races and came back in the 250cc and Open Pro lroph ydashes. The duo pounded it out for three grueling laps with Zirbel getting the nod in the Open and Fisher a win in the 250cc portion. Rick Hill dominated the 250cc A portion with the exception of surprising young Fisher (Yam), winner of the 250cc Sportsman trophy dash. Hill came back to lead the main event on a Bultaco Astro with Steve Loraine in tow. Loraine initially started in first but went wide allowing Hill to charge past. Hill went on to an easy win over Loraine, Fisher, Gerry Otto and Tricia Lyons. Ryan Fisher was unstoppable during the heat races in the 250cc Pro quaJifers and sat on the pole for the money run. Fisher led into tight turn one followed closely by AMA Expert Ron Adams (Yam) and Pat Munyon (Bul). Fisher was having a picnic up front and took his lead all the way to the pay window with Adams cruising to second. Fisher had a much rougher time in the Open Pro main event, and lor ) 0 laps, eyed the rear wheel of Zirbel's 500 Yamaha single. Fisher, Pal McBride (Hon 500) and Danny Bell (Yam 500) made a freight train behind Zirbel. Zirbel hit lapped traffic late in the race, but took the largest payoH of the night with a win.
