A 0.31-mile portion of the road course has been eliminated from the infield. and is shown by dotted lines in this diagram. The new combined oval/road course now measures 3.66 miles. down from 3.87 miles. Terry Knight called up to say that the bikes that Alex Jorgensen and Mickey Fay rode in the Superbikers (Cycle News, November 7) were not built by Ron Wood. Knight says both had Wood-tuned Rotax motors, but Jorgensen and Fay were riding with Knight dirttrack frames. The Anaheim Hi-Siders Motorcycle Club will provide Barstowto-Vegas pit service for $50. The fee includes gas, Gatorade, oil. chain lube and personal service; information is available from AI or Judy Smith at 714/997-8615. Jimmy France (left) and John Riddle (center) of Daytona International Speedway sign a contract with M.C.C. and Associates' Steve McLaughlin, making the 1985 Daytona 200 the first evenfin M.C.C.'s 10-race 1985 International Superbike Masters Series. Other tracks committed to host series races include LeMans and Paul Ricard in France; Mallory Park in England; lmola and Monza in Italy; Calder Park and Adelaide in Australia; Mosport in Canada; and Assen in Holland. Team Hammer won the 1984 WERA National Endurance Series' with a second-place finish at Road Atlanta on November 1O. Quester1 Sullivan Racing Finished second overall in the championship with a fourth-place race finish. Team Ontario won the race by 48 seconds; Team Hammer led most of the race but was ordered to make an extra pit stop after a wheel change to safety-wire an axle pinch bolt. "WERA hasn't made us wire that bolt allyear,and then they decide to get tough with 20 minutes left in the last race," said Team Hammer crew chief Ken Hoogland. "It cost us the race and put a pall over the whole day." Team Hammer's 1984 season added up to 94 hours of racing, covering 7692 miles with five wins, no crashes and no DNFs. The team won both U.S. 24-hour rounds - at Willow Springs and at Nelson Ledges - and set an American record for mileage covered in 24 hours. The team also won twO six-hours and an eight-hour during the year. 4 Suzuki will release in Canada (but not in the U.S.) the DR200S and DR125S dual-purpose playbikes. Although we don't have much infor.Jnation ab9utthe 200.we do know they both have air-cooled, singlecylinder, OHC four-stroke engines with the Squish Dome Combustion Chamber (SDCC) system. The 125 has a 124cc displacement. six-speed transmission and weighs 227 pounds. Both bikes have the single-stlock. Full Floater rear suspension and front disc brakes. The 200 will be available in black, and yellow. while the 125 will only be available in black. The U.S. will have yellow DR 1OOs and 250s. Wheelie King Doug Domokos will appear at all even Great American Motorcycle & ATV Shows in 1985. According to Great American Media President George Kolesnikovs, .Domokos was the most popular attraction at Great American shows he attended in 1984. Kole nikovs said that Domokos out-drew TV and movie starts, sports figures, fashion shows and trials riders at Great American shows. The first show in the "1985" series is scheduled for December 7, 8 and 9 (1984) at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Trials notes: The Schrieber Cup trials will be held December 8. in Little Rock, California. while the Trial de Espana will take place the following day at Indian Dunes Cycle Park in Valencia, Califor.nia There was a misprint in the product evaluation last week (November 14) regarding the JT Aire-liner System· I helmet. The helmet construction is fiberglass, not plastic. However, it is still not Snell-approved. Motorcycle Dealernews' 19th Annual Motorcycle and ATV Expo will be held this weekend at the Anaheim Convention Center. Anaheim. California. November 1618. It will feature product displays by the major manufacturers and aftermarket industry. among other items of interest to the motorcycling public. Scheduled times for the event are: Friday. 5 to 10 pm; Saturday. 12 noon to.1 0 pm; Sunday. 12 noon to 6 pm. Admission is $6 for adults. $4 for children. Dollar-off admission discount coupons are available at participating southern California motorcycle shops and Nissan dealers. Spectro Oils will have petition signup people present at the Motorcycle and ATV Expo on November 16-18, in Anaheim, California, to take signatures to how support in the "Save Saddleback" drive recently launched by CMC's Stu Peters. According to Spectro sales manager Richard Franklin, petition people will be stationed at the entrances to the Anaheim Convention Center, site of the Expo, and at the Spectro Oil booth itself. Franklin added that petitions will be passed out to dealers by Spectro sales representatives in the field. Pat'8rown rode his Sky Cvcle/Hi~ - Point Honda to win the Wilseyville (California) Hare Scrambles, beeting Ken McKenzie (Hon) and KTM riders Ken Ransey and John Haaker. Dan Nielson finished first 250cc Expert after Charlie Halcomb suffered a flat tire on the last lap; Halcomb still won the 1984 AMA 0-36 Hare Scrambles Championship. Little know fact: John Gregory, owner and president of JT Racing, is a licensed pharmacist. Harley-Davidson Motor Co. President and CEO Charles Thompson has left his position due to health reasons. Thompson. 52. suffers from heart problems. "I work hard for my money and I like to save it," was how World Champion Andre Malherbe described his move from his native Belgium to Monaco, a tax haven for sports and entertainment personalities. Mal· herbe, who sports "Bollywood" on the back of his racing pants, is look· ing for a lucrative contract from Honda and a healthy bonus for win· ning his third 500cc title. Even though Suzuki will not sell an open-class motocrosser in the United States in '85. new RM500s are available in Canada. It only received minor changes for '85, including a hydraulic front brake, gray-peinted engine. gold-anodized rims and new graphics. An update on Dan Ashcraft's condition does not have him with a crushed elbow, as reported in HosPITal Stop last week, but it's still serious. The accident, which occured during the Baja 1000, resulted in a large puncture wound to the elbow, and several small bone fragments. was treated at a San Diego hospital for his injury, which included removal of impacted desert debris and treatment for infection. The current prognosis for Ashcraft is reportedly hopeful and he should be riding again after the first of the year. Kerry Peterson retained his World Hill Climbing Championship at DeAnza Cycle Park November 11, by winning the 500cc Stock. Atlered Stock and Exhibition classes, and the Open Exhibition cl....
