Brown won both motos of the combined Expen class over Honda pilots Roben Felix and Scou Cook. Brown hole hot the first moto over CR500-mbumed Cook and CR250mounted Felix. Cook pressured Brown fQr twO laps then made his move over the big jump on lap three. The two were side-by-side as they wem imo the next turn, where Cook railed the outside line, gelling a better drive out of the turn. He took the le~d from Brown, who immediately staned to pressure for the lead. Cook overshot a turn on the next lap, and Brown took tne lead for good. Cook tried to force a mistake, but Brown survi ved all challenges for the win. Cook took second, and Felix finished third. Cook grabbed the holeshot in moto two over Felix and Brown. Cook quickly built a one-second cushion until his front wheel knifed into the deep sand and he stalled. Felix took the lead with Brown breathing down his neck. Brown powered past Felix on the third lap. Cook moved towithin striking distance of Felix, and was applying' pressure when the same right· hand turn again claimed his front wheel. He remounted in third, but was toO far back to catch the leaders. Brown bagged first, and Felix finished second for second overall over ook. The most notable amateur ride beonged to BreuShumate, who recemly oved from the Minis to 1'25s. Roben Horban made a return to action after a five-momh, inj ury-induced layoff, and rode within inches of class dom· inators Frank Word III and Jeff Harsha in the 250cc and Open Pro main events. Motocrosser Dick LiBya (KTM) put his machine into the lead in the 125cc A main event, and rode the inside line to hold off Robby Pearce (Suz) and flat-tracker Wayne Frampton (Yam). Lillya took advantage of Word's "run-what-you-brung" scheme to damage the ego of many a flat-tracker. Harsha (Yam Spons Center/Hon) wasted no time clobbering the con· testants in the 250cc A main event on his Honda CR250 motocrosser, leaving Word (Yam) and Horban (Suz) behind. Things didn't end that easily as the trio traded paint to the finish. Harsha's MX machine worked surprisingly well to beat the 'trackers of Word and Horban. Harsha's Grants Pass Suz/AULOmaniaiLight Racing J>roducts water-pumper took the checkers first. Word demoiished the evening and the plans of his classmates by topping the Open Pro money main event. Rob Carlson (Hon 500) rode impressively amidst the big boys en route to a LOp finish. Harsha was in contention but crashed himself out of the running - he booted his trusty CR LO life and finished mid-pack. The duel up front went Word's way in the end, with Horban second and Carlson nelling a third-place paycheck after holding Harsha and AMA Junior Bob Ingel Jr (Hon 480) back at the flag.
