Eddie Hicks (below) dominated the Mini Expert ranks with a 1-1 tally. , Jimmy Holley (31) and Pete Snorteland (781 had a good battle in the first 500cc Pro moto. (Below) Erik Kehoe flew to second in the 125s. Frank finished within a few bikelengths of each other. 500cc Pro The 500cc class featured some of the finest racing of the day. In the first mota the lead changed hands four times. At the start it was Snorteland leading Holley, Honda-mounted Tim Worth, Yamaha rider Jim Ellis, Honda pilots Phil Larson and Willy Simons and Cagiva's Ron Turner. For the first two laps, Holley kept constant pressure on Snorteland until the lead was his. Once into the lead, Holley pulled away slightly while Worth, Ellis. Phil Larson and Simons fought side by side for third. Soon, the battle for third caught up to SnorteIand and Holley. During the eighth lap, Snorteland retook the lead, while Phil Larson worked into third. Phil Larson then set after Holley and reeled him in. Two laps later, Phil Larson passed Holley and caught Snorteland. With four' laps to go, Phil Larson passed Snorteland taking over the lead. After a poor start, Honda rider Mike Fisher worked his way up through the pack and into third at ! ~k~~'.Il't11\~' 4~Jls jP,l)i# ~"'i!~,lPfls~ed . Snorteland. Phil Larson managed to hold on to take the win ahead of Holley, Fisher, Mike Larson and Ellis. The second-malO holeshot went to Mike Larson. By the end of the first lap, Mike Larson's 'lead was a few seconds over Ellis, Holley, Fisher and Snoneland. However, during the third lap, Ellis got out of shape over a double jump and became tangled in track banners. This put Ellis out of contention and gave Holley second. Fisher reeled in Holley but couldn't get by. For the next four laps, Fisher pushed Holley, but Holley wouldn't give in. Eventually, Fisher dropped back slightly while holding a comfortable margin over Simons. For the remainder of the race, positions stayed the same. Phil Larson began gaining slightly on Simons during the late goings·but couldn't get by.
